Why not? We seem to get daily lessons about other artists...

that's too simple to be true...Paul wrote "Helter Skelter," "Birthday," and was the driving force behind Sgt.Pepper; John was capable of "sap" as well (Eight Days A Week" and "If I Fell" immediately come to mind)...what made The Beatles great was they were a shining example of how "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts." Take out either George or Ringo as well and they would still not be the same band.

That said, however, I remember that day clearly. "(Just Like) Starting Over" was making its rounds on the radio. I liked the tune alot, but didn't know what it was called or, more importantly, who performed it. It been out for just under two months when my dad informed me it was John Lennon. I remember the customary walk downstairs to grab breakfast b4 school and my mom breaking the news to me that someone took his life with a gun.

I couldn't believe it. The world heard nothing from the man for five years, he comes back briefly and then he was gone again...this time for good. News stations showed vigils and the same 15 minute syndicated obituary reel over and over again.
