SPOLIER POST (not that you can really spoil an already spoiled movie but..)

Could be,but the movie never really tells us. I have a feeling they are trying to imply a lot (like the oil execs are responsible for the killing of the emir) but nothing is ever really said... so I'm not sure if thats what they are trying to imply and make us feel or not. I'm so confused!!

My critique with the above would be: well the oil tanker is always against US/Arab interest, if its a good target why did the pakis take out the tanker only then? We're they going for the oil execs? I mean the boat is basically empty, they should have waited for a full one... In our world terrorists prefer to take out American battleships and American skyscrappers and planes over an Arab oil tankers. I had a feeling that they are trying to imply with something that the terrorist chose to take out a tanker, but I'm not exactly sure what it was supposed to be.

I mean all that I *really* understood because the movie actually said it was that the US government did not like the Second Son because he wanted to expel US force from their bases if he would be elected. They liked the First Son (who became emir) because he would let the US forces stay in their bases. The reasoning then would be for the Second Son, conduct change while having the US stay in their bases, but ... anyway this movie is dellusional, its drawing dellusions, illussions, and a whole bunch of misdirection I couldn't follow if it I watched it 5 times.

but thats exactly the intent of the director, he wanted us to make the connections, he didn't want to think for us and spill it over like some others (Moore).

On a related note, Osama bin Laden, exactly one year ago, asked muslims around the world to attack oil installations and to overthrow the emir in Saudi... so, what happened in the film isn't far fetched.

i was hearing on the radio a sport rporter that was actually in Munich when all this shit happened, and he basically said the reconstituted part of the german police assault on the palestinians in the airport was 100% the same as the real thing. And that the movie is very well done, a must see. But some people with no background with the events could be lost.

perhaps, but the point with the oil tanker plot line is: what does it have to do with this movie?

I mean if they are going through all the trouble to weave in another story line throughout the movie, let it connect somehow - this is my big critique on the movie, so many plots and they don't really make sense together or next to each other (and they never except for two sort of, connect).

They could have just as easily informed us in the news in the movie that "terrorist took out an Saudi oil tanker...", and had the suicide bombers they were developing to do something else, i.e. bomb one of the embassies where a lead character happened to be at the time, or try and take out the other Emir, or even the oil execs at the ship terminal...

Not really. Then again I don't have too many expectations (don't know what to expect).

All I know is that Spielberg has done no screenings to the press, actors haven't done the talk-shown run, etc. I think the only thing it is doing is advertising its trailer in cinemas (and TV?) and just getting general attention by buzz. I think it is a fair way to approach such a subject, and I think it might hint that this isn't your typical Indian Jones/James Bond hollywood flick, but something that is deeper to the director.

I'll be really curious to go see the movie with my Dad. He is extremly knowledgable about the topic (as this was the generation he grew up in), he has read many books on the subject, and even assisted in the assination of one of the Munich terrorists
