intro melody isn't really my preference + not mixable if you put melodic bits straight into the intro... it is a journey, but the melodies just don't to it for me, maybe its me but I don't like diminished 7ths throughout my melody line but more just at the end of one. kick sometimes hits square values on the wavlengthscale so i suggest you take rich's advice.
thanks for sharing, and im sure others might enjoy this melody but not me...

Cheers for the comments iloop - The version i put up is actually an album edit - thats why it starts straight with the kick and the melodies....the original builds up to that bit..but its nearly 13 mins long so i decided to cut it out..

..i know i need to sort the kick out - cant seem to get the mastering right..

This is a dark piece which has a lot going for it.

As everyone has said, the kick isn't as good as the rest of the track and it does eat into some of the head room so I would look at maybe filtering out some of the unwanted frequencies.

It's a very top heavy track and needs a bit more work on basslines. Perhaps work in a complementing bassline that weaves around the melody.

There are a few moments in the track when I feel that the pads need a bit more to give it a sense of depth. Not too keen on the pad sound as it is but it could be complemented by another pad and perhaps get a bit adventurous with the panning. At the moment the track seems very compact.

The tempo is perhaps a little high for my tastes but that's a question of preference and isn't a big issue.

Overall a good job and definately deserves a listen.

With regards to learning how to master, at this stage I would focus more on the balance of your EQs and so on. Learning what frequencies eat up valuable head room and see what you can get rid of without loosing sound quality and so on.

What I like about this is that you have written a track that sounds different and isn't too bothered by what other people are doing on the scene, but that's the beauty of writing your own music.

Cheers
Karl

In my opinion it's partly a question of volume on the kick.
You might want to tweak that a little.
you may also want to try cutting the frequencies below about 60hz which will stop the unheard from eating into the bass.

Then perhaps cut the bass at around 90 to 100 so you can put the volume on that up a bit too.

Play around with that a little as it's not an exact science but they are ballpark figures.

A mixing tip if you don't know it already, listen to the track and get all the bass and percussion right first and then put the rest of your stuff in afterwards, makes it easier to balance.

Cheers
Karl

Thanks for the comments nemesis! Yeah ive only just started listening to just my basslines & kicks before i put anything else in like melodies and i havnt even used panning techniques in any of my tracks,so i'll look into that...i'll play around with the freqs on the kicks but i really need to go thru some mastering tutorials cos i dont really understand much about that side..

..i agreed with what you said about having my own style - a lot of tracks nowadays have the same structure and i dont want to copy those...its good for a producer to have their own unique syle
