We just can't seem to catch a break ffs! We struggle to the last breath to squeeze into the Cup after a 30 year wait only to be handed the World Champions in one of our first matches.
Well, at least we haven't got them first up, so we have a reasonable chance of getting our campaign off to a good start.
We've got to beat Japan preferably by 2-0, but 1-0 will do, hold Brazil (1-3 perhaps), and beat Croatia (1-0, or maybe a draw will get us through). I'm just praying that we've still got a chance by our last match. It would suck if we got knocked out by a poor showing against Brazil and our last match was a dead rubber.
Huus should come up with something. I'm encouraged by our showing in the Confederations Cup in 2005 where we scored 3 times against Germany, and twice against Argentina.
Oh well, we should revel in the role of underdogs.
We just can't do it easy can we.

def a tough group. croatia were a v strong team last time i checked. and well, brazil needs no introduction. still, if you were going to represent your country, wouldnt you want the 1/lifetime opportunity to play against the world's #1?
ahhhhh, group B is looking sweet the swedes are good, dont remember anything about paraguary tho. and trinidad? pleasure to have you aboard! confident england can make it to the next round.
but yeah, unfortunately i dont see aus beating brazil or croatia, but i hope im wrong at least Oz wont be one of those teams to rest on their laurels and take things for granted. they'll fight harder than anyone imo.
edit:

A- germany, ecuador
B - england, sweden
C - argentina, holland
D - portugal, mexico

I agree. Brazils not so bad in that if we can learn something and use it following matches we could do well.
I'm going to put on my optimist hat. It could have been worse. Something like Brazil and Holland in our group. I think both Croatia (not as strong as they used to be and a lot of players familiar to Australians) and Japan we can beat. If we get through we'd be toughened up to face Italy or the Czechs. That would be the real test. Personally I would like Italy. I believe they play defensive football that is susceptible to counter attack as we saw in 2002 when they were knocked out by Korea by a golden goal. I think Huus's tactical genious would shine if we played them. EDIT: Actually, now that I think of it, having Italy would be good because of that Italy v Korea match in 2002 - Huus was Korea's coach then so it would be a re-run for him - he would know exactly what was required, he's done it before.
If we somehow managed to do the impossible and reach the QFs anything could happen. We'd be conditioned to face anyone after Brazil, Italy/Czechs. It's under those circumstances that I'd like to meet a team that had come through an easy group, like Germany or England.
