I have read that in Europe there are huge free EDM festival/parties happening every week. But in the entire north American continent there are only about 2 similar free EDM festival/party type events every year, the rest of the dancing happens inside commercial clubs. I guess that means there are more kids in EU getting their own speakers and throwing their own parties just for the fun of it, but in America there is very little do it yourself type parties and instead they are mostly ran like businesses. It might actually be easier to get an audience over there because there are more people who genuinely enjoy EDM without making any money off of it, but it probably isn't very big of a difference anymore because anyone can put things on the internet now.

I think that no matter where you are you can get your shit heard seeing as how there are talented producers from all over the world.
