The Good
1. best dj: tie: hernan & phil. i cant decide damnit. hernan is the man at tracklisting, but phil has him beat technically and by his ability to think more “outside the box”...too bad he didnt do more though.
2. best producer: tough one, but based on the sheer number of mixes (upwards of 20?) and the ridiculous mix of ‘not over yet’, i would give it to Habersham. his beats are so inventive.
3. best party attended: this isn’t tough. Yee @ 1150 (gabriel and dresden who?), best moment: standing in shock when I heard nick warren drop echo and the bunnymen.
4. album of the year: multiple organisms
5. dj mix cd: gu-028: shanghai. honorable mentions: phil k – y4k, cattaneo’s renaissance 2, chris salt – future house
6. best remixes: sub6 feat. michele adamson – ra he ya (shulman remix), rnd – burn (momu mix), green thumb versus jv – grand theft vinyl (jv mix), vector 13 – g.h.l.i.s. (chris salt’s faith restoration mix), pop shuvit – conversations (shiloh mix), grace – not over yet (habersham’s still not over reprise)
7. best original track: phil k and habersham – cloudbrake. i know it’s old news, but it was released 2005 so i'll include it in this year’s list too!
8. best mashup – haven’t been too impressed by any mashups.
The Bad/Sad
1. the killers – mr brightside (thin white duke mix)
2. sasha – get back to us when you’ve gotten over yourself and this treble-heavy sound.
3. armada’s attempt to be “progressive”
4. 75% of electro: the atari-sounding shit and that funky stuff that sounds like background 80’s porn tunes.
Looking forward to:
1. more yee
2. phil k in Atlanta (please?)
3. lostep album (still hoping! not holding breath, though)
4. more remixes from ‘playing the angel’
5. some nice dark prog breaks
5. more quality music, period.
p.s. someone let me know when/if tomiie gets back to his nubreed sound.
