Event or Party
April 1, 2005. Surprise FREE party with Armin van Buuren + Gabriel & Dresden @ Mighty SF. So intimate. Magical vibe. It was just perfect.
DJ
TIE: Markus Schulz, Armin van Buuren, Sasha, Gabriel & Dresden, J00F, The Thrillseekers aka Steve Helstrip. Sorry, all are so good for their own reasons and their sets on certain nights just did it perfect for me.
I really wanted to see more proggy DJs this year but in the end, SF was really lacking on any major apperances at the bigger clubs. SatelliteSF has had tons of prog DJs at little ole Anu on Wednesday nights, but Anu is not my type of place.
Radio Show
Haven't listened to enough this year...pretty much only ASOT. Not enough GDJB. Mainly because it comes on while I'm getting ready / on my way into work and haven't really had time in the last several months to download and listen. Been busy in life.
Producer
Track
Impossible to answer. There have been so many tracks which I would have on repeat for days at a time....it just struck me the right way at that one time.
Club
Circus Disco
Sound System in a club
Ruby Skye in SF. Yeah, I know it's not the best out there...just from what I've experienced in 2005.

Markus Schulz @ Spirit in NYC is damn good.
So his Shanghai set.
No, the private one I have is not a Markus set.

Again, all such crazy nights where I left with myself just tingling all night...can't really set one out in front of the rest. I know I'm missing plenty here....
Armin really, really surprised me this year...I would actually be getting bored the ASOTs I'd hear...but the presence he'd just bring to Ruby Skye was just amazing...all that with the good vibes he brought on the nights probably boosted my opinion of his sets. Except for his May 27 set...that one was just amazing. Period.
Go-Go Dancer
I focus on the music...no time to focus on any go-go dancer.

Moment that you experenced.
In May, on stage at Ruby Skye...get a tap on my shoulder, turn around...it was Armin. He came up to me to say hi. I felt so special, lol.
The vibe experienced at the free party with Armin and G&D with only one little shitty flyer I made going around on the web with about 20 hours notice....there was just magic in the air. Was hoping just at least 150-200 people showed up...and whole helluva lot more actually did. Mighty was jam packed that night...with the perfect, and I mean PERFECT, crowd. People just dancing everywhere. Possibly the best single vibe I've ever experienced.
CD
Don't think any good "CD" has come out this year...
Local Dj
Syd Gris, Scott Carrelli, Jeffrey Allen, Alain Octavo, and when he's on his game, Taj. I know I'm missing plenty of other, mainly progressive DJs. Scott and Jeffrey are probably the best local prog DJs I've heard...beating out all those in SF and in LA.
Remember Desyn Masiello saying Scott C. is the best DJ he's heard in the US...that says a lot. He's talented. Just needs to produce some stuff to get his name out there. Listening Scott? Listening??? (I doubt he's ever gonna read this)
Jondi & Spesh would probably be in this, but actually don't think I've heard them this year at all.
City for the Scene
Bigger scene in LA and probably a city where figuring out who's coming to town is much more exciting because so much more goes on and it sees its round of bigger DJs far more often than just about any city in the US (except maybe new york?), but the best vibes I've experienced this year have easily been in SF...most often on the midweek or Sunday night events...the perfect crowd just comes out...crowds I've yet to experience in LA.
Unfortunately, while the scenes in other major cities seem to be on a come back, it's not like that here...the scene is still having major issues and while there are periods where it seems like there's hope, someone will take a chance on a DJ and get bad results.
Right now this city is hurting badly for a lot of good progressive nights. Even DJs who bring in good crowds in other cities played at lounges here in SF, usually at Satellite SF which is usually no more than $5 for entry, on a Wednesday night, and a place where a person like me does not really enjoy himself. Totally respect Scott Carrelli for doing the nights though. Spundae and Skills are the only ones who will bring trance DJs in. Spundae usually the bigger ones and Skills often the one taking chances on DJs which has been hit or miss. Ten15 has been bringing in J00F and has PvD (though NYE will be only the second time this year)...and I guess you could say ATB (though just once this year).
Things would all be so much better if events that occured in the past occured differently. But that's life. Hopefully SF will eventually make the big uturn to having one of the craziest scenes in the US like it used to at one time. Right now, still a well known scene around the world, but when you get down to it, we are really suffering.
I wish I had huge funding to build a nice club. After seeing all the mistakes made by clubs and promoters here in SF and down LA, think I could really brainstorm a good plan out. So many ideas that I wonder could be done. Of course, I'd want Spundae in tow to run a weekly :-p....but, then again, none of this will ever happen.
