you think i paid $500 for my cdplayer w/a smile on my face? no.

but that's the price i had to pay to get something i would be happy with.

So your saying its overpriced but its good quality?
Yes pioneer likes to overprice but how often does a cdj break down compared to other cd players? How much of a beating can it take whilst living in a dj booth in a club filled with smoke and high humidity?

This is simply because mp3 wasnt inteded for profesional use.

Djing is an expensive hobby, i've been saving and saving and saving. CDj's arent extortionate in my opinion, but they are expensive as you are paying for the features and build quality.
Although if you put the price of them into perspective with say, the highest spec Ipod available (Just for comparisons sake in the field of electronics), you pay £300 for the top IpodVideo available in the UK, and for an extra £19 on top of that you could have a great sounding CDJ200 that will last you a long, long time and you can have endless fun with. Not Cheap, Correct, But worth it.
Anyhow, you search about and haggle your ass off you can get things a lot cheaper than RRP as you were saying.

Pioneer = Quality

Quality is what lasts and won’t fail on you (except for rare exceptions).

I don’t get why people are complaining about the 'cheap plastic feel.' What the hell do you guys do to your CDJs to need metal? Mine sit on a table and I use it properly, and seems just fine. No absolute need for metal if you treat the product properly and with respect.

Hellooooooo..... because when I touch my Xone 92 or 1200's they ooze quality, I touch my CDJ-1000's and they feel toyish. I love the layout and responsiveness of them, but they could be (and should be) built a little more hefty for almost $1000. Look at the vinyl adjust knobs... one whack and they would break right off.

On my Xone you could probably carry the mixer around by one of the knobs

I just ordered my christmas present to myself.... a second CDJ1000 MK2 for $799. Brand new unopened. Yes it's true. I actually got my first one for that price as well. Comes through an authozied dealer and everything The only thing that it get shipped from Japan, so i have to go to radioshack to buy a U.S. Plug.

Just to answer a question that's about to be asked, My company has a special online store that employees are allowed to buy from. General public is not allowed. Isnt' $799 below cost as well?

799 is a frickin steal for cdj-1000s

if you're on a budget, get dns-1000s or cdj-100's. they're shitty, it's true, but the price is right.

this is totally irrelivent!
if your compairing the price of equipment you should only compare the price of the equipment!

sure youl need needle, but they 'l probably come free along with the slipmat's etc!

because you could be equaly as picky about the cd side! ;

price of cd's!
internet charge's
a pc to burn to disc and download the tunes!
a cd labeller kit!
theyr more likely to go faulty, so thats gonna cost you
cleaning equipment for the lense!
possibly a stand!

and btw, i wouldnt say theyr overpriced. Theyr the industry standard so you cant expect them to be the same price as a shitty mid range version!

Don't ever use a lens cleaner in a CDJ, unless you want to destroy your player. They need to be professionally cleaned.

The mid-range units aren't exactly shitty anymore. The CDJ-800 is pretty damn close to the 1000, and something like the Denon DN-S3500 costs around $600 and has a ton of features (multiple loops, cue points and effects). Plus it's built like a tank and matches the CDJ-1000's accuracy.

The 1000's are overpriced, that's the reality. When the CDJ-1000 came out 4 years ago the price was understandable, but they've barely decreased in price and the competitors have surpassed them.

How many of you actually own the CDJ-1000's? I've had a pair for a while now, and while I'm happy with them they were a bitch to pay for.

I personally think the CDJs 1000 are great. I mean they are over-priced, but I don't think there is anything better out. If you are only going CDJ like I am now, then they make the most sense to buy. Sure the 800s are geat, less money, and I was at first thinking about getting them, but when I thought about it, I decided that I'de rather get something that I wouldn't want to upgrade in the future. I mean the .02 pitch is more accurate than the 0.05 on the 800, and it has the 6% pitch range which is more accurate for progressive trance than the 0.05...10% pitch range on the CDJ 800. I know I could have saved and just got the CDJ 200s which have all of that, but like I said, i'm only going CDJ now, so I felt like the 1000 made more sense in the long run.

If something better comes out from pioneer then sell them and upgrade- or just be happy with what you have.
