Still...the clutch on my 2.5 RS was always bad..it used to rattle and shudder when cold. I spoke to the dealer many times about it, but they never did anything. But after much arguing, I managed to get a replacement clutch at 77,000km! I found a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) online about replacing shitty clutches, and my car fell into the category.
Join a Nissan forum and see what they say.
Also, most dealerships offer a 3-month warranty when buying new cars...so you can try that. And a few "wear items" are still covered under warranty for a fair amount of time. I know brakes are usually covered for the first 12,000km or so...maybe the clutch is covered.
Check it out man...dont get fucked by the dealers. |
Dealers will do anything to make the sell. best thing to do before buying any car from a used dealer - take the car to another shop for a second opinion. if there is nothing wrong with the car, the dealer will have no issue letting it go. but if there may be something wrong, the dealer may make some B.S. story to keep it from being inspected off the lot.
i picked up a 96 Z28 6spd back in 2000 (fairly cheap $19K w/ 78K) - but typical of any sports car - im sure a lot of people had the chance to see what this car could do. (and i had to pay for it in the end)
dealer said they just dropped in a new clutch - after driving around for a few months (even when i just bought it) there was always a chatter and a bit of shaking when engaging the clutch. finally got to the point where the engine would turn without the car moving while in gear.
86k kms - i had to change the clutch - i called the dealer and did the old: eh! What the Fuck!?! i just bought it! - because i was over the 3 month warranty they would not change it, and i would have to pay $2400.00 if i had it done.
Fuk that! did it myself! $250 - new clutch
if i could post pics on this site i would show you the clutch the dealer literally "just dropped in" - they did not center and align the friction disk. nor did they grease the bearings or torque the bolts on the pressure plate. the chatter was caused by the disk slipping and cutting/grinding the edge of the plate housing and bolts.
oh well, live & learn.
no problems 6 years later +120K on the clutch i installed.

If you can push up to the manager, complain like hell and act really ignorant at whatever points they try and bring up and then re introduce your complaint. This will help especially if you look like a fob.
best luck.
