Is it just me, or have power converters come a long way in 10 years?

Friends of mine used to have to lug around this big 10kg block as they had consoles from Japan/USA.

cheers

Power adaptors have been small for quite a while. I remember as a kid ( like 1990 ) my mother would use one for her hair rollers from the US and it was a 1000 watt thing and was basically the size of an ac adaptor real small.

The big blocks you're talking about are usually real powerful and real expensive.

I see.. so buying from the US, isn't really that bad. If for instance you knew someone who was travelling from the states back over here.

So what's the story with buying stuff. Getting it shipped to your mates address over there. Him RE-packaging the product and sending it to you as a 'Gift', aren't you allowed to send presents to other countries without them being done for Taxes etc..?

POt luck

I had a $2000 mixer sent marked as $50 value gift and it got through......but on the other hand I got screwed for a pair of headphones marked as $89.

When talking about stuff like this its risky as the taxes could be huge.
Law unto them selves.

Plus would you really want your new cd player thrown around by some gimp in a shipping depot? Potential for damage or theft is quite high......

Anyway- im off to the airport for the second time today- and I have just worked a full night (6 hours) too so am pretty shattered.

Byee........

I've heard from people from the UK on different forums in regards to many different types of items and taxation and it seems pretty much hit or miss.
The chances are actually pretty big that you get taxed and high cost as well.
Best solution is coming back by plane customs usually don't check bags or really do anything about it ( like Freak said ).

see if you were to go to the u.s from the uk, pick up a couple of Cdj's and then bring them back with you, could you say that you took them over with you from the uk because you're the famous Dj Zejayman and they've got no right to tax you?
I've asked this before but nobody knew anything...
