that's wut persuaded me....rane products and support is amazing. not that i've ever needed support, but from what i've read and heard....it is waaaaaaay better then FS' product support.

as for recording straight back on your laptop....it's quite simple to just throw a line-in from your line-out and record from another software running in the background. not the best option cuz 1) laptop line-in quality sucks, and 2) means another program sucking your computer's juices...but it still works fine.

i know pvd has switched to SSL from FS...exact reasons unknown, but it seems fairly logical to assume it was cuz FS was too unstable for him.

edit: if i am correct, i think i read somewhere that SSL has free updates for the rest of your existence....someone confirm this?

my 10 cents

in all this FS vs SSL debate, here's my 10 cents.

before you shell out the big money, try usingdjdecks. DL it at www.djdecks.be

you can use either the SSL vinyl or FS vinyl. It's interface isn't as busy as FS2, but it does the job. it supports skins, so you can make the screen look like CDJ1000s, SSL, etc.

You need to use a multi input sound card like a USB maya or any of the newer pci sound blasters.

works very well.. ... oh, and its $30, instead of a few hundred.

Yuuuup.

They post all of the updates on their website for you to download for free. Can't argue with that.

Good call, Ive been seriously looking at that program. The FS2 or Serato time coded vynils cost about 10 bucks a piece and DJ decks has a demo. Spend the ten bucks, try out the demo, if you like it spend another 10 bux for another time coded vynil and 30 dollars for full version of DJ Decks. But I bet there is more headache with it

djdecks

no, it was actually quite problem free.. the biggest headache was to finding FS2 vinyl that wasn't warped.. and also waiting 3-4 days for my USB sound card to arrive..

Total cost was something like this:

Maya 44 USB: $100
2 FS2 vinyl: $25
RCA cables: $20

Also made a dual boot, and had a second copy of XP HOME that i stripped down.. go on google and there's a site that tells you how you can strip down XP so its more stable with FS2/SSL/DjDecks...

Nice mate, sounds good. Let me know how you like the DJ Decks and how they preform. Do you have preamps or the soundcard already has them built in? Peace

looks interesting. i read thru the website and i still dont exactly understand how this system works. correct me if i'm wrong but it works exactly like FS or SSL but without the need for a special soundcard am i right ?? just a regular soundcard with 4ins & 4outs will do ?

care to elaborate ?

I am using Final Scratch 1.5 for the past year and I am very happy with it. No crashing, no bugs, no latency, nothing...
I heard that Serato is a good product too but I am probably going with Final Scratch 2 or 3 if they have it in the future.
