hehe, I intended to do a 4-to-the-floor tribute myself but then my friend went off and did 3 sets of his own, so I didn't want to go overboard.

I still intend to do a 4-to-the-floor version, which will no doubt encompass some of the classix (remixes only, mind) of which you speak.

The Clean Muthafunka was obtained by a friend who procured a promo release of the Muthafunka (perhaps for radio play).

A Number One originated from another leak somewhere in Australia, I believe. All that exists is a 192 kbps MP3, though (at least in the wild).

Ah, too bad, A Number One is really excellent!

Perhaps I can dig up a copy of the clean Muthafu*ka. CDr promo, or vinyl? It has nothing do do with profanity, I just like how it sounds better.

i believe the story with "A Number One" is that it was made by Way Out West a couple years ago. the samples are from the movie traffic...so you might also see it labelled as "Traffic - A Number One (Way Out West Mix)", but i don't think it was ever officially released. it was supposed to get a reworking and be on their last album, but maybe that idea got scratched i dunno.

Cool, thanks! I'm sort of embarrassed that I didn't know.

CDr Promo, I believe. I'd have no problems with sending you these in mp3 format...they're not available for purchase anyway.

Re: Traffic, that whole ambient backdrop for the remix is actually sampled from the Traffic score. They basically utilized it as a backdrop for their remix...Traffic - A#1 (WOW Mix) is definitely a more suitable title. Also, the vocal samples are ripped from "Escape From New York." Traffic evolved into "Northern Lights," basically...during their live show, they placed the EScape From New York samples over "Northern Lights" and "Northern Lights" also shares some compositional elements with Traffic. I think they were just copied over into a releasable medium since the Traffic remix was copyright infringing on several levels.
