your dollar is worth about .86 USD.

So if you went to the united states and tried paying for something at a dollar store with your canadian dollar, you wouldn't be able to because you wouldn't have enough. And that is if an american store accepted your shit money.

I win, die plz.

Pretty sure we all know how exchange rates work bud, but thanks for your dumb ass explanation anyway.

Considering a few years ago our dollar was worth like 0.65 american, and now its 0.86, you lose. Your dollar value is going down and continues to go down.

Canada is the 2nd worst debting nation in the world. America isn't. Even though they're debt number is bigger; that number versus their economy is smaller than our debt to economy. Canada is in worse shape, basically.

First off, he told me to learn about something I already knew about, twat. So I had to give an explaination.

And you have to take into consideration that people have died from the things that have brought our economy down (Hurricanes, 9/11, etc.), so I think that we shouldn't be treating this as a fucking conest, so I am stopping right now, because I started it, my bad.

No, no, no.

You're confusing a trade deficit with a national debt. And while China has purchased portions of our national debt, they can't "call in our debt", it doesn't work that way.

uh.

no.

a country can have a relatively tiny economy, and have ppl with excellent conditions, better than that of nations with massive economies, and more market power in the general scale. Take some of the gulf countries, especially the non-democratic ones. The ppl get so much money from the government, because the government makes so much money from the oil reserves, and gives much of it to the people.

actually, living conditions is in itself, kind of a hard thing to sort out, because it's purely an average. So in a country of 1000 people, u may have 1 person with an income of 1billion dollars per anum. the rest may earn 1c per anum. that averages out to $10,000 pa average. THis certainly isn't the only factor in determining living conditions, but it's probably the biggest.

Australia has a GDP per capita of $ 30,700. 17th on the global rank.

US has a GDP per capita of $ 40,100. 2nd.

Mostly Becasue of the social security benifits, and FREE PUBLIC health care, Australia has a better living condition (from memory, about 5-10th in the global scale. Oh yah... and we have kangaroos.

I used Australia and US as an example. THese are pretty well-known, common countries. So it's not just a one-off instance of my point.
GDP per capita is just an indication of how much GDP per person is in a country. IF living is expensive, and the gap between poor and rich is big, then living conditions are shit.

currency exchange rates aren't the best indicator of economic strength.

i can't be arsed explaining why, but 1 pound is worth like 2-3 USD.

go figure.
