uhm. black star got airplay years before kanye even touched a mic, and they did it ten times better by all accounts. so much for your knowledge, eh?

LOL, Storch's sound is completely OPPOSITE of what you're talking about. WTF is wrong with you? Storch is the one producing all of the bubblegum-candy shit these days.

not to mention the fact that mos def and talib kweli barely get airplay anymore. The last time i saw mos def's vid was ghetto rock, which was a dope song on a HORRIBLE album.

have you even heard a snoop dogg song in your life or the roots even?

P.S. we weren't talking about the sound now like his Candy Shop shit but the fact that kanye ain't the only one with his "sound". In fact he's years late.

+1, Common also has had a steady stream of radio hits since before Kanye came into the picture. Even in 2002 when he released "Come Close" it was HUGE. And that was before Kanye was widely known as a rapper. He was strictly producing back then.

you guys are fuckin retards. im not saying his sound is new im saying kanye is making it popular. i know these guys have been around way before kanye, but it wasnt made popular till as of late. the bling bling gangster era has been ruling since the mid 90's and only now are mc's like talib and mos def and common getting popular. and u can thank kanye for that. rather u like it or not in popular hip hop music there is a change in the direction its heading and once again like i said previously u can thank kanye for that.

dont strip away a mans credit. he deserves credit and im giving it to him.

theres a reason why hes producing for all these sorts of mc's

I still have no idea what you're TRYING to say and there's no such thing as "as of late" it's simply "of late". Furthermore, those artists ARE CULT CLASSICS, meaning they will always appeal to one group of people, people who usually like those kinda productions. With or without Kanye it's a cult classic.

there's no direction since "bubble gum" shit is still the leading sound for hip hop.

Most people i know who listen to rap, which is alot, and like mos def/talib kweli sound or whatevre the fuck you're trying to say, listend to that shit for years. As did I. Not just because some dude out of "nowhere" starts making those beats.

Ok i'll give him credit for sampling a bunch of sounds and putting them over a repeating beat....so much for a great producer.

Kanye is simply a poser. Deal with it. He tries to be Common, he tries to be Mos Def, but he isn't. Not even close. He got into the business for the bitches and money, and that's the only reason he's still doing it. He has no message, and his producing skilles are over-hyped (he has other people in the studio doing pretty much everything for him) and I lost pretty much all my respect for him after his interview with Scratch magazine. Read it for yourself, and you probably won't be able to respect him either.

Most of you are idiots. Kanye's style of rap is STORYTELLING. If you can't see that and appreciate it for that, then you don't know jack, Jack.
