I suggest getting yourself an overview (sound-wise) about all the different genres of trance. From techno over genuine trance over old school stuff over cheese up to progressive, techtrance and even to psytrance, all possible ... and I didn't even speak of chillout, ambient, electronic and the like - and there are even more specialisations for the fans of each sub-genre. But don't feel stressed to check everything out, just chill and listen to the stuff you like. Do it like somebody suggested, read through the forums and everywhere you see traks go check them out. If you like it, ask for similar artists, if you don't like it, don't bother. By doing that you can build up quite a big repertoire of artists and styles in a short time (I did that pretty excessively back in AG times, years ago ... and I have listened to many stuff) and will know what you like and what not. And over the time and over the months and years you will discover more and more, you will see
