Aaaaaallllright.... Long overdue, I finally have a chance to post a review of Mike's Winter Promo....
First off, killer opener, I think the Lars Sommerfeld track does a good job of setting the tone for the set without really giving away what direction you're heading in, and the mix into "This Is Not a Problem" is really nice to open the set up with.
It's from this point until Elektrify that was really my favorite part of the set. The programming is well done and when the bass line for Elektrify hits is just kind of a cool moment where the set maybe feels like it slows down a bit, but in reality just keeps chugging along.
The ONLY part of the set I really didn't like at all was Phatjack - Vintage Girl, and it's not because it was poorly mixed, but I just wasn't feeling the track at this point in the set. I should however note that I'm biased because I'm really not a fan of the track to begin with, so my criticism of it and it's placement should be taken with a grain of salt.
And finally, as far as the second half of the set goes, I thought King Roc ->Echo ->Santiago was a particularly nice part of the set, I thought all those tracks melodies complemented each other quite well and kept the pacing of the set chugging along into the final 3 tracks, and as "Feelin' Electro" and "Trigger Finger" are two of my favorite tracks at the moment, so yeah, the end of this was pretty much "win."
All in all, a really dark and chugging set of good house music that was mixed quite well (I have no criticism for any of your mixes what-so-ever) and is programmed in what I thought was a really cool, steadily building set that felt evenly paced and kept me interested for the hour+.
