This is a very interesting topic.

As for my opinion I agree with the opening post... that is it shouldn't be anything awkward.

I suppose what makes everything awkward is based on insecurity... Insecurity with their sexuality, "am I going to be seen as homosexual if I'm naked with another man?" and insecurity with themselves, "do I measure up"...

Both of these insecurities manifest into the excuse "No way I'm doing that... that's just gay..."

well, there is also a matter of privacy.

think about it. when you shower, you don't really feel like it is something you'd film and show to friends. you are ridding yourself of dirt. you wanna be able to grab your nuts, get a good scrub going on in that area, make sure you clean your ass right, and all that. while being naked in front of other people shouldn't be too much of a problem, i can seriously understand why someone wouldn't want to watch/be watched during these activities.
