and for the record IMO - this was the only way to get Martin out of there (good thing) and maybe it is better that it happens now in an election that will see Harper in there for the short term (crosses fingers). The Liberals now have an advantage to right wrongs and reform/regroup stronger than before.

Namely by putting more WOMEN in position of power and creating opportunity for greater ETHNIC diversity of power between all cultural identities in Canada.

BOTH OF THESE DEMOGRAPHICS federally have taken a huge hit with the CONSERVATIVES coming in with this election and I hope people are pleased with this decision that punishing the Liberals has brought.

Let's hope the "short term" reprecussions do not last a generation of clawing to get back progress made that was so hard fought and won in many areas.

With all the angry/harsh talk of money scandals and misappropiated funds during the Liberal power days - we now have the INTEREST OF BIG BUSINESS back at the helm - and business corruption and lawbreaking runs rampant from your local convenience store (with not ringing things into the cash - although I am still being charged tax - WTF is up with that) to the highest levels of goverment it seems - so you think this will change just because the Conservatives have power - DREAM ON people! Let's hope there is pressure for transparancy (Liberal and NDP backed) and reform on all levels..........that sort of shit should actually scare the major corps - they pay their lawyers and accountants very well for a reason. There is a whole slew of smelly fish out there under tight capped lids. Lets peel them back and dispose of the decay already.

My 18 cents.......

more to come......

i think the liberals deserved to be punished, their sloppy house needed to be mopped up...

i'm also glad the conservatives didnt get to run wild here... they are in, but it's a weaker minority than even this past liberal government.

they will have to wheel and deal or else they will find themselves out on their asses in short order.

i'm happy the ndp gained, they can help better keep these guys in check - 29 seats is no laughing matter

it will be interesting times!

ok this is the kind of thinking the Liberals need to stay away from. There are way more important issues at hand than worrying if there are too many white males running in ridings. Aside from perhaps the NDP, the Liberals already cater to women and minorities moreso than any other party. And explain to me how this makes the party BETTER? Remember that most candidates are ELECTED in their own ridings. If you start appointing women and minorities to "broaden" the demographics of the party, you're just going to piss people off.

I may have not made myself absolutely clear - semantics are a bitch - and people sure like to bitch about them instead of the positive aspects of a situation.....

this not to say that this is ALL that matters - but if I was ethnic and/or a female it would matter very much that I have proper representation in my government or equal opportunity to access such levels. And the CONs have the least representation of said above than the 3 major parties - especially this time around.

I also do believe we need more "social conscious" reform and we cannot have that with the corporations maintaining a strangle hold over new and less environmental impactful technologies and products because Lobby groups have too much power over governmental decisions and hinder change.

I myself will probably not have children and I should be the one most to say "I COULD GIVE A FUCK!!!" for future generations because of this - yet I believe socially/globally we are making horrible decisions for the short term without thinking of the long term consequences.

I really do believe Canada has the opportunity economically and socially to become a very powerful nation for the greater good in the next half century - we have a handful of European nations to take some good ideas from (thermal water heating as per Iceland - Windpower as per Finland/Norway) our shear volume of land mass and resources are boundless - we just need to find ways to protect and advance ourselves into global leaders instead of goodwill peacekeeping bystanders. We have the respect of the world on our side and we should be using that to our advantage.

Our scientific advances in many areas are soon to be world renowned we must invest heavily into our SUSTAINABLE FUTURE not pander to corporate greed.

and some well placed/elected/re-elected women, ethnic and gay governmental representatives can make this happen I believe.

Reverse this "cult of beligerant MAN" and create empathy and social conscious responsible behaviour in people - this NEEDS to happen to affect major positive changes.

And since this "cult" hasn't worked in the past (look at the history books) - it sure can't be any worse if we tried.

thanks

NO

Lets put PEOPLE in power who deserve to be there. Not just because they fit a particular demographic. Women need to be encouraged to run but they shouldnt run just because they are women.

yeah, that's pretty much what I was saying before. I completely disagree with that line of thinking.

I think I'd rather have Frank Mckenna, or even Alan Rock if he can be coaxed back to active politics. I would support John Manley, but he is anti-monarchy and on that issue alone, will never get my support.
