town: lubbock, tx
population: 1,500 ppl NO KIDDING! (high school population: 100 students)
status: the most boring place ive ever been to, honestly
main attraction: gas station
you had to drive on a freeway for a good 15-20 min to get to the nearest grocery store |
Lubbock! hehe half the town is my relatives! My mom was born there and some grandparents live there, aunts, uncles, etc.... My relatives literally own half that town...
Yeah its dead but the story behind it is fascinating.. it boomed right around WWII because it was hailed as a new town, spring oasis in the middle of nowhere... a peaceful place for returning soldiers to live... so they packed it.... and it was a HUGE city in texas until the early 70's/80's.... finally the baby boomers moved out.. there is no industry there - no reason for people to stay there. Its sad, but thats how cities work....
**PlastikE - guys he isn't kidding - he lives in a small ass town... although i woudln't say it sucks... it was kinda "cute" and homely in a way... all the locals were nice and make you feel at home. (except for those that stare-you down b/c you had a car that was built in the 20th century)
...and my town...
Greater Ft. Lauderdale
Population: 1 million
we have REALLY touristy places, then we have VERY underground places, we have VERY safe areas, and we have the worst crime spots. We have canals running all throughout our city, called the "Venice of America".... shit we even have water taxis!! here:

...as far as the eye can see - that is Ft. Lauderdale, and more down behind the camera... i would not be able to fit it all in one picture.
Yes we have a big downtown with around 15 skyscrapers or so too... (just to the left of the picture...) we have around 10 municipal police departments, uncountable city parks, and we are actually bigger than Miami in square mileage. (Greater Miami has a higher population though - due to crowding IMO).
We are about 30 minutes north of miami... just a short stint from South Beach and all the goodstuff... We have one of the best Community Colleges in the nation, and some of the worst public school in the nation ...And then we have some of the best private schools as well.
We have some really financially burdoned (to put it nicely) people (mostly in the immigrant population), and we have some of the most ridiculously wealthy people. (see: houses on the beach).
Blah blah blah.....
wanna know what our headlines sound like?
"Body of kidnapped cripple found in dumpster tuesday night"
"Missing boss found in car trunk in towing yard impound lot"
"Stolen Cars turning up ditched in canals"
"Burglar successfully rob's tenth jewelry store at gunpoint."
.... you get the idea there are some worse (read: more violent) headlines.... but i won't burden you guys with them!
..in other words, it can be nice, as long as you stay in the right neighborhoods
