if u can squeeze a fart out do it. usually clears you some space and gives the other people something more exciting to talk about.

It's not just squished subway rides... The bus rides to school (with Viva) can be pretty intense too. This morning i was squashed inside the viva York U bus for 45 mins. What pissed me off the most was that some "older" (see late 30s - early 40s) people were sitting their fat asses on their nice seats and were making fun of all the students that had to stand from RH Centre to York. What a bunch of WANKERS And they were men too (only one of them was a woman and she was just as bad).
Some of us have really heavy backpacks and were putting them on the floor so we could stand without losing our balance and those guys kept making comments about how someone might trip and fall and how "when i was their age..." Fuck off! You're not our age, and we don't care what you did when you were. Our backpacks are sometimes really freaking heavy and some of us have bad backs. Mannnnnnnnn i was in such a bad mood by the time we got to school i just wanted to spit on them when i got off the bus

TTC could get more "overcrowded"

January 25, 2006 - 5:57 am
By: Laura Hampshire

Taking the TTC to work today?
If you don't have time to wait for a bus that isn't overflowing you know how crowded it can get during the rush hour, but the TTC is considering packing in even more passengers.
Today they will consider a report showing how they could save up to 5 million this year if they opted for overcrowding.
The city has asked the TTC to cut 17 and a half million in spending or they will have to raise fares, again.
TTC Chair Howard Mosco says he doesn't like squishing in more passengers like Tokyo, where they hire people to push others into subway cars.
The TTC says they already allow modest overcrowding especially during the morning and afternoon rush hours.
The Transit Commission is also considering cutting 29 cleaning staff in favor of using machines overnight to wash down subway stations and save money.

WTF?! Why overcrowd the people who pay for the service?! That's the most retarded thing I've ever heard

Yeah it's a shame that our upper levels of government haven't taken public transit too seriously. Despite the minor annoyances I still consider it the better way over a car anyday

Really, compared to other cities, like London, U.K., where they actually have to close the front doors of some stations because they're so rammed! You have to line-up outside, just to get in the station! Our stations can look really laid back to me.

If all the commuters were to follow simple rules like actually move all the way in the subway cars instead of cramming around the doors! We've all seen this happen at rush hour. Also, always stand on the right side of the escalator to let people in a rush pass by quickly.
The above would really not be much of a problem I bet. Those two rules are followed almost religiously in London and if you don't someone will remind you politely

How does TTC fare compare to other major cities? It's only what 2.50 a ride?

It's 2.75 now I think to take the bus in Windsor. I dunno...I took the Tunnel bus on the weekend and that's what it was. I don't take the regular bus though, so I'm not sure if it's different.

Also...I like eavesdropping on conversations. Sometimes you get some juicy gossip! Hehe Though after the 5 minute entertainment it doesn't really matter, b/c it's not like you'll ever see those people again.

Yeah! there are definetly some random adventures to be had on public transport that's for sure. I've fallen asleep on buses/tubes with friends after parties and have ended up on the opposite side of the city. Only to get on the bus and do it again! lol at myself!

Here's what single fares are currently in London. We still get a deal in this respect:

http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/fares-tic...e/tubedlr.shtml

Here's a map of what you'd be navigating. Pretty extensive:

it's actually somewhat comparable from what i've seen .. however the fare structure i think needs some total rework .. they should really consider introducing zoning so that you pay according to distance travelled rather than a flat rate fare.

needless to say funding also needs an overhaul.. i won't even begin to compare subway systems with other cities around the world of comparable population .. i think most of you already know that story ..

Consider the population boom and there has only been what? maybe 5 new stations built in the past 15 years.

We could use a subway that starts at Union station and goes up Spandina Avenue. Then follows the old University line spliting off at Downsview towards York U and after headng towards some of more neglected and less accessable areas ex. jane & Fich and Rexdale.

Now I'm getting into my visionary mode lol
