The reason it has to come along with an explanation is now a days musicians and journalists have progressive rock confused with music that happened in peaks in the 70's. I would say that yes this music that I create, a big influence to me like Genesis and Yes when they were really peaking.
++ Wakeman FTW (Keyboard player in Yes.. Ok there were others too)

This has now gone seriously OT unless somone convinces him to make a trance track.. |
i dont think that this is at all OT. i was surprised by how many people in this thread, who (i think) would consider themselves musicians, or composers, or producers, or whatever) thought that the rick wakeman video was shite, or silly, or not interesting. composers of (any genre of) music have to try to listen and understand all the different stuff out there. granted, you might not like prog rock, but i think that one has to have an open mind, and learn to appreciate all the good stuff out there from all over the place. this doesnt mean that you should start composing prog rock stuff, but it might benifit your own writing and imagination if you listened to a little and kept an open mind. i think a great example of a trance group that incorporates all sorts of different stuff is infected mushroom.
by the way, jordan rudess is my favorite keyboard player. besides the music that he shreds, he really works a lot with his synth to get his sound perfect (to him, at least).
odd time signatures dont make a song great, but they do add an interesting element, just like odd harmonies, or odd melodies. and if one can incorporate all of that, and make it work, i think that song would be so much better, and so much more interesting than anything spun or prouced by our favorite djs. or you could just do the same old stuff over and over again.
