I only have one Eels album (the latest one, Blinking Lights and Other Revelations). It's a double cd, but some of the tracks are just short instrumental pieces. There are only a few upbeat songs while the rest is just really depressing in my opinion. The subject matter is pretty dark since it deals with the death of the lead singers' sister and other family issues.
Aside from that album, I've heard Electo-Shock Blues and Beautiful Freak were their best. Check out the songs Last Stop: This Town, Novoacaine for the Soul, Mr. E's Beautiful Blues, and Trouble with Dreams.
