I agree about the looks - too futuristic-y and just plain weird. But then I don't like the old shape Civic either and I still bought a Type R. I feel the same about the Focus and the new ST as well, which is why I'll still be interested when the next gen of Type R Civic comes out.

I'd buy a used BMW, and get ten times the car for appx the same price...
E46 3 series are going for ~ $18k in really good condition...
