overhyped

Too much hype with Albeton. I have 5 and it's just like any other DAW. The whole "real time" or "live"ness about it isn't that novel.

And it's midi abilities aren't as robust.

I think it comes down to a matter of taste and such. I'm just not that big of a fan. I thought it would do better at recording my mixes on my computer as I mixed with Serato, but like, it hogged too much CPU, ProTools ended up working better. (And I hate PT) I should play around with it more though admittedly.

BAH.

"ZOMG ZOMG SASHA USES ALBETON ZOMG SASHA SASHA ZOMG!"

I just hate the people who like it for THAT reason. They only use it because some super-star uses.

Dumb fanboys. Other than that, it's just another DAW thingy. No big deal.

From what I hear, all the 'options' that Ableton has, you can also find similarly in a different sequencer. FL Studio also has the ability to easily fit in loops to your song's tempo. Its internal effects also become better and better now. It also has a good interface for audio timestretching, and for me it definately is all easy to use.

Everything has its ups and downs, though if it is REALLY an up or REALLY a down is totally up to you I think. For example, I really don't mind the way you have to make automations in FL.

Hypes are of all ages... Though that rarely ever means something is as good as it is in reality (as usual). I guess Ableton is a good program (never used it myself), though so is Cubase, Reason, Logic, FL Studio.

What YOU do with it is definately more important. There's no need in bringing a sequencer down because you don't like it yourself and discourage other people who use it, or make them feel bad they are using it.

I actually saw a live PA a few years back done with FL (there were 2 people and I think the other was using Ableton), but this was before FLStudio even came out. It was cool to see.

For DJing I would say Ableton is the way to go if that is what you are looking to use it for, but for production it is really a matter of what you prefer. As Icone stated there are advantages and disadvantages to everything.

If you're gonna be producing stay with Cubase, definitely. I fyoure gonna be "DJing" then ableton is the best software and has plenty of useful effects.

Like I allready said, when it comes to vsti-paramter automation the Ableton concept is the best I know. I finally eliminates the curse of parameter jumps which rendered those cute midi-controllers with rotary-encoders quite useless. If the big players would take care of this in their products it would be great.

my wquesiton is, IF I learn to use Cubase, will it be so difficult later to learn to use Ableton Live?

Thanks.

I dont use loops, so I decided Ableton wont be that better than FL for my purposes. Only automation will be an improvement if I switched, but it's good enough for me in FL, so...

I tried Ableton for a day or so, I wanted to see for myself whats so special about it. Believe me, FL isn't worse, it's different. I like the workflow in FL much more, I am a tweaking guy (a perfectionist) so jamming is not the way to go for me, I need to keep changing things till I'm satisfied and I believe FL is better in that (could be wrong though, only tried Ableton for a day). I also don't like the way how Ableton's screen is arranged, too much on one screen, which makes important parts (like the sequencer) too small for me. FL uses multiple windows, you can open and close them, you can resize them, much better for me (but who am I).

The tutorials and help and everything in Ableton is great. But hey, FL doesnt need any tutorials, because its so damn simple (FL haters will say it has little options so its easy to learn, I say its intuitive).

Of course this is a personal opinion, I am not trying to convince people which is better. I am just telling my own story, from my perspective. It's all about personal preferences...
