I wouldn't know why music from artists like Steve Roach or Eno isn't inspirational?

Highly inspirational stuff, I'd say.

Ulrich is strange because most of his stuff is downtempo, but sounds uplifting. Most artists in our around the same type of genre usually have a darker sound. If your looking for some euphoric chill then I would suggest Red Jerry, Solar Stone, DJ River www.djriver.com, or Zilent Zpott(Marco Torrance).

Xela - "Tangled Wool" (City Centre Offices)

Khonnor - "Handwriting" (Type)

Both of these albums are awesome.

I think what he does is create an atmosphere in his music around melodies and textures. He kind of weaves in a euphoric feeling through the various elements and layers, and makes it build. His sound is more downtempo than ambient (most ambient i've heard doesn't have as prominent of a beat like his music does, mostly washes of sounds with some melody), but overall it is "unique", it doesn't fit in one genre, but that is the closest one i'de say. Some have catagorized him experimental too, but I don't see his music highly experimental, like Pan Sonic or John Cage or stuff like that. I guess if there was a new genre Ulrich would be in "downtempo trance", because as i've said, his music has some elements of trance, noteably a shifting framework, a highly euphoric feel, and highly melodic. I guess it puts you in a trance in a way...
