I dunno what ur talking about techno is refered to as Daddy dj and eifel 65? Techno in my cases is referd to as Happy 2 b Harcore and stuff. Daddy dj would b euro or eurodance or whatever u call it. I gotta agree with tiesto14. Techno is at a high bpm just righ in ur face as trance has its mellows peaks and so on. ANd tiesto14 i love that thing under ur name

Im not really sure what techno is exactly....where the line goes.....
In sweden Zombie nation is classified as Techno.......I always thought that Techno was short for Technological and that Trance was a part of the Technological music....but i have this book about techno now and it proves me wrong.....the name was found in some movie.......

One of the more amusing points of people referring to anything over 125 bpm as techno, is that they don't really have any idea of what real techno is!!!

In my experience, the best way to educate these poor, misguided people is to sit them down and make them listen to a few examples from each genre... kind of like a school for electronica! You'll have them addicted in no time

BTW DjRendezvousSyx, just to clear something up... happy hardcore and house are worlds apart, so don't confuse them mate ! House is generally chilled out kinda music around the 120 to 135 bpm mark. Happy hardcore, however, is generally around the 160 bpm mark, so it's a lot faster and there's also normally some cheesy piano sample in there too.

lateRZ,

barryfigiel

it basically goes by the BPM of the tracks in most cases i think...but Trance is more of a mellow music with high and low points where as techno is more of straight forward 250BPM in your face ...

WHOA 250bpm?? Thats like 70bpm faster than gabba and nearly 100pbm faster than hard house!!

Nah, techno is , I would put, " unmelodic, Unemotive trance ", It lends a big hand to progressive, as they are both similar in some ways. Techno has no build ups, and little melody to speak of. Like progressive, but I find progressive does have a faint melody in it somewhere.

The best way to describe trance against techno to newbies, is to say there is a distinct melody. I mean how could someone mistke say Willow (Magikal Remake) to be in the same style as Underworld?

thays a great point dj_mdma. most progressive and techno that i listen to just focus on one beat and doesnt have build ups that we all know and love. i wish i thought of that.

If someone's actually got an interest in learning about dance music, sitting down and listening to the different genres with you then you're quids in. But the sad truth is that the majority of people whose primary musical interest is chart, or nu-metal or whatever, are going to lump all dance music together under 'techno' and there's absolutely nothing you can do about it.

Fuck I used to do it on purpose, just to wind my room mate up when I was going through my *ahem* 'melodic skate-punk' phase ... he'd be playing Fatboy Slim and I'd be like "turn that techno shit down", knowing full well that it was actually called 'big beat' cos he'd tried to explain it to me in the pub plenty of times, but I didn't really care.

Lee if you're reading this now, I'm really sorry mate ... you'd laugh if you saw me these days ... I'd out "techno" you big time
