I've used a few different cd players at different clubs and these are my views:

Denon - Expensive but very good, the best I've ever used.
Tascam - Expensive and pretty crap, pitch fader is in accurate and not very precise.
Numark - Now these are about £400 to buy and are bloody good, a lot better than the Tascams. I'd go for these, that leaves you with about £100 to buy a mixer.

Hope this helps.

Barry

I read in some letter to a magazine (think it might have been mixmag) where someone said Oakenfold and Mauro Picotto both use CD decks.

Is that true???

A lot of the big names do use CD decks as well as turntables. CD decks are just another tool available to the DJ. If people won't use them because it's not 'cool' then there DJing for the wrong reasons. I use both, and both have there advantages and disadvantages.

i would also say, if you can afford to get both, then go for it, cuz with tt's, you can get tracks that might never have been ripped before or mp3s that you couldnt find, and also with cdjs, you can get promos that release groups put out that you normally wouldnt get on vinyl, it is all up to you, you could probably be best of starting with cdjs though, since you have a big resource of mp3s and dont have to pay for them, jeez, i sound so illegal, haha, but i have turntables and vinyls, so yea, if you are gonna do that, should support the artist too, maybe buy a cdm..

excuse my being blunt. BUT WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!?!!?!?

everyone knows that vinyll has better sound quality. but there to hear that sound quality it requires decient needles and well taken care of records.. sure cd quality will be better than a greasy dirty record w/ a 5 year old needle. but when taken care of record kicks the shit out of cds.. where did that comment come from you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about?

digital better then analog?? maybe in computers, but certainly NOT in music!! have you ever compared a track you had on both media?? I did it, and the bass at vinyl LIVES, and the high tones are more clear. So for a better sound (read music sound, not pops or cracks) you should choose vinyl. But if you want to use cd's thats also good for mixing (i use both, i am in the lucky position of a denon 2600F and 2 sl1210's). I can't helpp you with your decesion, you should better check a few local suppliers to see wich cd player works the best for your desired price. Please take care with the start time of a cd-player (the time between pushing the play button and the actual starting of the music, the better players have instant start).

The reason I chose turntables, as opposed to CD decks, is because the only stuff that's released on CD's are commercial top-40 hits. You won't find the majority of Trance tunes released as CD singles. Everything is released on vinyl.

Of course, you can burn MP3's and spin "MP3 CD's" for the most part, but then you're sacrificing quality, and who would take seriously a DJ who compromises quality?!

yah vinyll sounds better, has a broader range of releases, and hey man finding vinyll is like a game! Its challenging and a bitch but when you get those records they mean soo much more. and it puts you in check so your collection can only grow soo fast (ie you get to learn records)

paying for them is a different story =)
now that part i admit sucks..

but hey, whatr you going to do.

Hi,

If you don't mind me asking, now I really got curious why vinyl is so much better than cd? Is it because like mp3, the cd cuts off a part of the music that goes beyond 20k herts or anything like this. Please help my head rest calmly during the night.

OK guys, I've whittledm it down to 2 particular CD players (though I may still change my mind).

The CDJ-30
http://www.123dj.com/cd/gemini/cdj30.html
$229

or the

Pioneer CDJ-100S
http://www.123dj.com/cd/pioneer/cdj100.htm
$299

Obviously, since its an extra 70 dollars for the Pioneer, I imagine it's better. But how much better? Both links show their qualities, but I don't understand what half of it means

Can anyone tell me if it's REALLY worth paying an extra $140 for a pair of the more expensive ones? Or would I be better off going for the CDJ-30 and using the money I saved to get a better mixer?

Monkey Dancer 2 Loop and Re-Loop

One more question about CD-Decks. Does the Loop and Re-loop functions are really important. Cause I don't know if this feature is strictly a cd thing or if you can do it with regular TT (not CD-DECKS), well if I am to feel like a DJ do I really need that?
I am asking this because the CdJ-100s doesn't have the loop funtion much less re-loop, so I am thinking that maybe it is worth saving a little more for a 500A Pioneer CDJ???

Comments please
