lol i'd have to disagree, the uk and london espically has a shitload of underground type clubs, theres a million of them. Londons a massive city, and just like any other its going to be ridden with big parties, but thats not why its the edm capital of the world. What are these toronto events that are "fresher" than london? you sound like u've never been to the uk speaking like that, or if u have, you dont know anyone there and have only hit the big name clubs. Techno and dnb are huge there, so i donno where ur gettin ur info from. England is the edm capital because its always been a few steps ahead of the rest of the world, ie "much fresher" |
Areed, London is pretty much the EDM centre of the world!!! I find London to be more various small club nights than massive events like say the Netherlands has. The variety in London is second to none.
The acid-techno scene there is VERY! underground with most of it happening in squat parties which I recommend to anyone who visits their Some of them can go on for days

All true and valid points. It might also have to do with their club scene. Much more part of mainstream culture. I wonder if people would ever consider moving to the UK for the music and the club culture? |
You know, I want to clarify something to everyone who uses the phrase "Valid Point". There's no such thing as a true and valid point. A point is an opinion, and an opinion cannot be valid or true, otherwise it would be a fact, not opinion. I know this phrase is imbedded into your heads and you all use it daily, but I figure it would be in good gesture to try and undo this commonly repeated saying for the sake of the english language (and for the sake of making a stronger sounding argument/statement).
Now speaking of the thread subject, the UK is known to be more generally welcoming of new music, and is the testing grounds to alot of American bands in "rock". Also like mentioned before with Backstreet Boys being popular in Europe way before in US. The same can be applied to many rock bands like The Killers, Nirvana, The Strokes, The White Stripes, etc. They are big over there before they become big here in North America. With exception to Nu-metal and heavy metal (Korn, Linkin Park, Disturbed), as they are the exception to this general rock rule: American companies and producers always bring their music to the UK first to break them into the industry. While the funny part is, UK music (britpop) seems to have harder time selling their product to the America's, and only few great bands go past that borderline indie threshold and into mainstream american music ala Coldplay/U2.
Im not sure how it is for electronica music as I know very little about the genre itself, but I am sure its much different as electronica music is not mainstreamed itself and sought as more of an underground/club thing. Most other musical genres is venued and marketed through radio and television, so its not the same to compare to.
Though im sure America holds the grounds for most rap/hip hop and R&B talent (if you can call some of that stuff talent).
