but you just know that some sort of rule, regulation or law will be passed because of this. Res life sucks ass now compared to even when i was in school. No wonder seneca res feels more like a hotel than a residence!
I couldnt believe all the rules and fines involved now. FINES? PLEASE! If they had tried to fine me actual money when i was in school i would have laughed at them.

I lived at Calumet at York, and I will tell you, no rules. It was apartment style, and the dons just left us alone. The only time i ever saw my don was in the first week when he introduced himself, and that was it. It was great, turly like living on your own. No worries, no complaints, no hassles.
Remember that these universities also have obligations towards the companies and private donators, and must uphold their reputations as 'learning institutions'. Important research and work is conducted at uni's, and so they want to reflect that image, and not this party/drunken/naked image the news splashes around.
The admin staff i am sure would be happy if all this happened and nobody ever knew about it, that way the students get the total experience, and no negative press. As soon as laws are brought into the picture, thats when people need to put the hammer down, for the Uni's repuation, which is everything.

Looks like a pretty fun party :P
Honestly, I don't see why the media is going wild about something like this. Its university, people party... nothing bad happened.
If you want to talk about a bad party, look at Queens Aberdeen Homecoming party. Between 5000-7000 people attended, houses were destroyed, a car was flipped over and burned, and 35 people were arrested during the thing.
Compared to that, a few half naked kids running around is a joke.

this is not about being "uptight"...once again, it's about liability, from the university's standpoint and a "good story" from the media's standpoint.
no grade 13 anymore = a LOT of underage undergrads.
some 18 yr. old getting wasted and getting hurt outside of their own room could = potential lawsuit by the parents.
is this a stretch? yes. does the university want to take a chance and/or appear to not care (whether they do or not)? no.
in light of the hazing incident, you can bet officials want to improve their public image...whether or not this is "normal behaviour" is irrelevant. |
but 18 in quebec is legal age. So whats the issue?
As for our situation in ontario. If we were a little more progressive wed make the drinking age here 18. If you are old enough to vite, die for your country and be held liable as an adult, you should damn well be allowed to have a beer and a smoke.
