def the 304's

i have got a pair of the stanton 304's

here is a review i did

the stantons are actually pritty good the scratching is spot on but like all cd decks it does sound a bit digital

effects are cool filter, phase, echo, pan, flanger, transform aka Cutting effect as on the pioneer djm600.

there are some things they didnt say about the deck like you can actually change the start up/power down of the track i.e make it sound like the song is starting really slow then speeds up and for the power down make the song sound like its getting slower and slower (like you would do on a TT when you click the power off) so in my eyes it is the newer version of the pioneer cdj 1000mk2 but made by stanton.i also have two cdj 800 (but only use them for gigs) and to be real there aint anything different between them well the price is one and the looks but underneath the shell.............. nothing!

i can really see this cd deck given pioneer a hard time its great for live remixing due to the 4 hot cue buttons but in fact you can store 12 hot cue points which this is another thing stanton did'nt say.

pros
looks nice (they look crazy in the dark like some kinda power plant or somat!)

great pitch range +/- 8,16,25,100

loads of features which have not been menstioned.

good price tag for them i paid £640 for them both (not trade price either).

Fader start funtion (great tool to use)

cons
jog wheel is a bit heavy so watch out when you do a back spin it goes on forever.

sampler could have had more memory added to it only has 5 seconds per button.1-4

blue screen a bit hard to read the writing aint dark enought for the background colour.

when you load a cd up a tray comes out instead of like the pioneers where you can just slide the cd in.so lads whatch out for your crown jewels if you have these cd decks set up at a low hight.

overall i would give them a 9.5 out of 10

the missing 0.5 is because they are not the industry standard (YET) plus they will have to earn the respect of the top djs just like the pioneers cdj 1000 had to do.

i hope this has helpedyou m8.

here is a pic of my setup just to prove i havethe 304's

What's up with all of the CDJ-100 bashing? CDJ-100s are great, especially if you have a limited budget.

Both Pioneer and Stantion CD decks to me, are nothing but really expensive paper weights :P

If you don't go vinyl, and are obsessed with CDs, I'd pick up spinners. Much better to mix with, more control, and these decks have the same features as what you're looking at.

Look into:

Denon DN-S3500 <---platters size of a .45
Numark CDX <---- Full 12" platter with REAL vinyl on top. (Even comes with a slipmat)
Technics SL-DZ1200 <----7" platter (This thing is just beautiful)

All 3 of those, in my humble opinion, makes Pioneers and Stanton CD decks look like child's play.

ive played w/ fuzzy's 200s and i really think that theyre great, esp for the price. that being said, the jog wheel does feel REALLY ghetto (very usable though) at least in comparison to like the cdj1000mk2.

ive also playe dw/ a dns3500 before, and theres something i really dislike about that platter (even w/ the spnning turned off). the interface is also really busy, but thats cause it has lots of features.

hope that helps.

stanton cd 304's have an 8" jog wheel which is bigger than a 45 since the come in at 7".

ok

denon dn - 3500 (i think are better then pioneer) but once again it all comes down to that stupid industry standard crap.

NUmark cdx - the chips they used for the fx are cheap i.e the sameones Behringer us in there djx 700. and are just to big as cd decks.

technics sldz1200 - so many problems with them i aint even gonna bother to mention them (there really is that many!).product was rushed onto the market to try and compet with pioneer they even canceld the developments of Music keyboards (i.e sx kn series) to try and spend more time with this kinda stuff.plus they cost an arm and a leg.

you cant really call the stanton 304's an expencive paper weight

£640 for two cd decks hmm i dont think thats expensive

numark cdx - for one it costs £473 in the uk

denon dn3500 - for one it costs around £650 in the UK

technics sldz1200 - for one it costs £576 in the UK

personaly now thinking about it if you are just starting out with cd decks i would get the stanton digipak pro

you get
2xc.303
1xm202 mixer
and a pro carry case for only £500 (now thats a giveaway)

here is the link for you all to have a look at.

On the Stanton C304's, is there a way to stutter the start? Instead of setting a loop, I want to play the first few seconds, and start it again, without making a loop. I'm not sure if I am explaining it correct, but right now I have Numark CDN-88's, and on there I can just hit the play button and it automatically takes me back to the beginning of the song, but on these I see that the play is also the pause. Is there another button that can do this same thing?

yes mate its called a hot cue what you can do is when you play the track in your headphones find the part that you like and then press one of the 4 hot cue buttons one you have pressed the hot cue button you will have stored a cue point so everytime you hit the hot cue button it goes straight back to that exact section where you pressed to hot cue button.

the best trick to do though is play the the whole song in your head phones (fast forward bits ovcourse) and place around 3 hot cue points this way you can make the track you own by say putting the chorus first then play the intro then the chorus again and then play the bridge then the chorus and finaly the outro (basicly you can recontruct any song you like).

if this is not what you are on about THEN to do a simple stutter effect is simple all you do is dont select the vinyl or one touch rewind funtions then the cd deck will just act like an old school cd deck i.e STUTTER EFFECT.

i have used the Numark cdn88 aswell im not really a fan of them for as you have stated when you push the play button it goes straight back but im sure if you selct a cue point and then move the jog wheel (make sure no effects are selected) then im sure they will do the stutter effect.

i hope i have helped you in some sort of way.

I'm really not sure since I don't have experience with the CDJ200, but from what I understand the only difference would be MP3 support and a nicer look. If you don't need to play MP3's, go with the 100s. Good luck.

Yea, I was just mentioning the CDJ100 in another thread. I bought one used, and the tracks skip on it. I used a cleaner for the laser lens and burned to the lowest speed. Still doesnt work properly. I'm gonna return it tomorrow and see if they can get it repaired.

it sounds like your laser needs re-tuning m8 thats all or its because the unit might be old and had alot of use.

dont try and re-tune it yourself get a trained techniction to look at it.
