The only station you will find everywhere is Classic Rock, then there are a bunch of Top 40 hip hop stations, a few rap and a few country.

Near me there are no EDM stations, one used to play awful trance I don't even know what it was after 2 am on weekends, but it eventually stopped, and now theres nothing.

I worked in Detroit and found it had the best rock radio stations compared to any other place I've been.

There used to be a couple you could hear in/around some of the Mid-Atlantic East Coast beaches. (Ocean City, MD / etc.) They mostly played 'euro-pop' and trance/pop type stuff - but had some electronica and other assorted type things playing. It was actually pretty neat in the summers to be at the beach and have music like that playing. Im fairly sure none of them exist anymore nowadays.

In North Carolina, you cannot escape Hip Hop. In a place so central to the Hip Hop Scene (take you shirt off and twist it in the air), escape should not be expected. The clubs play hip-hop. The mix stations play hip-hop. The pop stations play hip-hop. The rock stations play hip-hop. The indie college stations play hip-hop. And when they don't play hip-hop on these channels, they play R&B, Emo, or Nu Metal. The only stations that don't play hip-hop are the country stations, and, well, they play country.

Every so often, you can find a station with some good real metal, maybe some prog rock or post rock. The NCSU channel plays dark, progressive and psychedelic trance late, late at night. My friend and I were very pleased one night to hear Trancesetters - Roaches play on that station.

Suffice to say, you have to look hard for good music in the states. I think it's the same anywhere else. The most accessible stuff sells, plain and simple.

damn I didnt know you lived in NC! And you're within range of the NCSU station! Aside from the local NCSU statiom clearchannel owns pretty much everything, but on weekdays except for friday they do a few hours of EDM each night, and on sundays they play chillout. I think that station is pretty nice IMO, and I've heard much mroe EDM than progand psy on it, but their selection is quite random and unpredictable.

How many electronic stations do u guys have in the states?

Well first of all there ARE Dance leaning stations in your country of Australia, and I'll get into that in a minute.

There are only a handful of Dance stations found throughout the United States. For obvious reasons (ratings and advertising revenue) they lean very heavily on commercial Dance for the most part, although some of them have some good specialty shows on some weeknights and on the weekends.

Seattle's C-89.5 (a non-commercial station actually...from a high school!) has been programming a Dance format since the early 90s:

C-89.5 Seattle

(32 K) http://www.c895worldwide.com/web/streaming/c895wm32.asx
(32 K) http://www.c895worldwide.com/web/st...95shoutcast.pls

San Francisco has Energy 92.7

(128 K Copy & Paste into Winamp) http://www.live365.com/play/kngy

The most famous Dance friendly station in America is 103.5 KTU New York City, which by day leans very heavily on Retro Dance
103.5 KTU, New York
http://www.ktu.com/main.html
(33 K) http://ccri.eonstreams.com/ccri_ny_newyork_WKTU_fm.asf

Part of the metro Phoenix area can pick another Energy station:
Energy Arizona, 92.7/101.1 FM Phoenix
http://www.energyarizonafm.com/
(64 K) mms://media.hostdepot.com/334479-02

Finally in the smaller town of Wilmington Delaware (a bit south of Philadelphia) there's a college station called Super 91.7 WMPH
Super 91.7 Wilmington (lots of Circuit Anthems)

(64 K) http://www.wmph.org/Listen/wmph64k.asx

(24 K) http://www.wmph.org/Listen/wmph24k.asx
(24 K) http://www.wmph.org/Listen/wmph24k.pls

A good number of US radio stations have weekend Dance shows late at night, such as Indie 103.1 Los Angeles, Power 106 Los Angeles, Wild 94.9 San Francisco, Q-100 Atlanta, and so forth.

Over in Canada, the most Dance friendly station is Top 40 station Z-103.5 Toronto. Although for the most part they'll play extremely commercial Dance hits in regular rotation, they are known for breaking a lot of records in North America
Z-103.5 Toronto

(32 K) http://69.90.16.42:81/z103.5_FM

Now onto Australia. In the Melbourne area there's Kiss FM, which plays a lot of great Underground Dance
Kiss FM, Melbourne, Wangaratta, Daylesford, Hepburn (Underground Dance)
http://www.kissfm.com.au/index2.html
Frequencies: http://www.kissfm.com.au/transmitters.html
(48 K) mms://203.12.234.146/kiss

Then you've got stations that play mainly Dance, but also some Hip Hop (especially in the morning hours)

Radio Metro, 105.7 FM Gold Coast
http://www.radiometro.com.au
(128 K) http://64.124.159.20:7777

Fresh FM 92.7, Adelaide

(128 K) http://streamhq.adam.com.au:8000/FreshFM.m3u
(32 K) http://streamlq.adam.com.au:8000/FreshFM.m3u

Raw FM, Canberra and other cities
http://www.rawfm.com.au
(32 K) mms://rawfm.stream.integritynet.com.au/rawfm

Groove 101.7, Perth
http://www.groove.com.au/
(32 K) mms://audio.git.com.au/Groove

And a couple of smaller cities, like Darwin, have pure Dance stations:
Kik FM, 91.5 & 92.3 FM Darwin
http://www.kikfm.com.au/
(48 K) mms://wm8.spacialnet.com/kikfm36847

Pump.FM, 88 FM Karratha
http://www.pump.fm/
(20 K) http://www.pump.fm/20kbps.asx

Even many of Australia's leading Top 40 stations play a huge amount of Dance when compared to a lot of other countries, though naturally it's mainly commercial Dance. Some good examples would be

Nova 96.9, Sydney
http://www.nova969.com.au
(32 K) http://www.jr-digital.com/asx/nova969.asx

The Fox, 101.9 FM Melbourne
http://www.fox.com.au/
(32 K) http://www.fox.com.au/?a=172106

There's even an AM station in Brisbane that leans Dance (and has a really good webcast stream)
Switch 1197, Brisbane

(32 K MP4 Technology) http://sc3.audiorealm.com:9772

What frequency is clearchannel? I don't think I've heard of it before.

Clear Channel is the largest radio company in the United states (and pretty much the world). They own, get this, between 1200-1400 radio stations in the United States. They even own a Hip Hop station in Australia...

I just rely on internet radio, there are a few stations in Ohio that play techno at really late hours and when I was in NYC I found a channel that plays old eurodance and poppy stuff like "I like to move it" but for the most part radio stations here blow. Although Jam 92 in Cleveland used to pump out the eurodance back in the early 90's when that stuff was popular.

I used to have some radio stations preset in my stereo in chicago. they were all the usual top-40 type stuff.

but then i moved to iowa for school and all of the stations that were preset for top40 were now country [:barf:].

so then i changed them to find the top40 stations in iowa.

and when i came back to chicago for breaks and stuff; all those stations were hispanic

+edit+

fuck yeah i finally hit post 500.
