Nusty,

Georges is a purple belt in BJJ (like me). His guard is purple belt level as well and he is still prone to stupid mistakes off his back. How else can we explain his first round tap out to Matt Hughes? BJ got his blackbelt in 2001 (or was it 2000?), anyways, he is lightyears ahead of that now.

They are on two completely different levels when it comes to pure grappling. Both of these guys know this. Fortunately, St. Pierre has been training with really good guys in NYC the past 2 months so we might see a new and improved bottom game.

Anyways, BJ doesnt like playing from guard in MMA either...

Enjoy the fights!

my comment was mainly that I've seen him fight off rear chokes before and directed at the previous comment about Penn taking his back I don't see it as a real concern given St. P's athletic ability. I'm not saying that they are on the same level with grappling (I've trainned with BJJ black belts and every belt between there and white, I know the differences every step of the way) but a purple belt is still pretty capable when it comes to fighting off back attacks as st. pierre has shown in past fights. Penn will be a good challenge but I think pierre is going in confident and will keep his head if penn gets his back. now other locks are different issue, but I doubt this match is going to end in a choke.
I think both would rather play it out swinging, but their interviews seem to acknowledge that things will fought standing and on the ground almost equally.

arg! I just went to buy this on PPV and it pops up as the 1am showing! I called in saying that I want the current showing and apparently because I didn't care about watching the intro crap for the first 30 minutes I now can't get it at all until it loops over to show it the second time!
I seriously want to kill my cable company down here. ...If I want to miss 30 minutes of a PPV program that's my choice, not theirs!

keep me posted guys... I'm dying to know what's going on with this fight.

Round two saw the fight have a finish. Yves took down Hominick early into the round and Hominick transitioned into a triangle armbar forcing the tap. Hominick upsets Yves Edwards in the return of the Lightweights to even the team score to 2-2, leaving USA and Canada tied.

Mark Hominick def. Yves Edwards via Submission (armbar) at 1:52 of Round 2.

Marquardt vs. Doerksen
round1
Fight is still going. Round one saw Marquardt with the upper hand. Fight hit the ground early with Nate on top, but didn't stay there long. Marquardt lands a big kick in the middle of the round. The fight hits the ground again with Nate on top again. Round ends with Doerksen landing some good shots
round2
Fight is still going. Round two saw Doerksen get a takedown early. Again, doesn't stay there long. Nate gets a takedown but they both get up quickly. Doerksen drops Marquardt with a huge left hand, but Marquardt recovers and takes him down. That's how round two finished up and we'll see you again in 5 or less with what went down in the third and final round.
round3
Fight went the distance. Round opened with some big exchanges on the feet which Marquardt got the better of. Doerksen gets a takedown in the middle of the round, but Nate reverses into Doerksen's half-guard. Nate working some ground and pound. Marquardt goes for a front choke, but doesn't get it. Round ends. Judges give it to Marquardt via Unanimous Decision, giving him all three rounds despite the knockdown in round two.

New team vs. team score: USA - 3, Canada 2

Nathan Marquardt def. Joe Doerksen via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

just noticed that he walked in to this fight with a black belt on.... As far as I know his only true martial art is bjj so I'm assumming that the black belt is from that. Just thought I'd make note of it here. Although I thought he was still a purple belt as well.

I know Penn got his black in only 3 years.
