Here's a short description of Canada's history in Afghanistan
-OP APOLLO from Oct 01-03 under NATO article 5 (mutual self defence) and UNSC resolution 1373 to combat terrorism worldwide
-Deployment of 3PPCLI Battle Group with supporting units to support US OP Enduring Freedom from Jan 02-Jul 02. Also Navy interdiction mission in Arabian Sea.
-OP ATHENA from June 03 to Feb 05. Part of ISAF which was formed under UNSC resolution 1386 to assist Afghan Transitional Authority.
-Deployment of Army and Air Force units to Kabul area in peace support missions.
-OP ARCHER Aug 05 to present. Under OEF currently until transition to ISAF authority, support & reinforce ATA in Kandahar region.
-Includes a Provincial Reconstruction Team (committed under Feb07) and a Battle Group (committed at least until Jan07)
-Overall 2300 CF members in Afghanistan currently
