So bascially, nothing of any value.

I believe that every track should have something which separates it from the rest, something which makes each makes each track special. I wouldn't deem any of the tunes i play filler, I would however call the hundreds that are decent but I don't believe have that special something filler.

Well, filler is a dj slang term that, as I’ve know, does not connotate something negative. Filler tracks are actually the most important tools for a good dance floor dj. They are tracks that are not so much ment to call attention to themselves but merely cause a change or transition in mood and vibe. They are the bridges that connect the more pop or peak tunes and they can be quite good in their own right. As a dj something like 'Instrumental' can be very valuable, but to just a dance music listener it may not be something that they would buy or enjoy just listening to by itself. There are better examples but this has already been discussed before.

Anyway I don't think 'filler' is really a good word for it but that's how the word is used by most dj's i know.

Please don't belittle me by lecturing me on "dj slang". I don't know what djs you know, how long you have been spinning or much about you as a dj at all, i do know your mixes get good reviews in the promotion forum, so that's all i can judge you from. You must have seen my mixes in their so you also know i am no reatrd when it comes to djing and "dj slang". i am by no means anywhere close to the top and am still constantly learning more and working my way up etc etc.. but I would still not call any of the tunes in my sets filler. I see what you are saying, i guess i just dont structure my sets around those big tunes.

I didn't mean to belittle you at all. It's all good. I just thought that was the standard use of the term in the industry and was sharing it. Could be wrong about it, I'm no pro myself.

On a side note I have sampled a couple of your mixes and couldn't really take to your style. Just a difference of tastes, but I can tell you have a genuine passion and your experience is greater than the majority so again, in no way was I trying to belittle you.

Thanks a lot.. My style can be hard to absorb for some people.. It's pretty nasty.. I still agree, my reaction to Iammesol's comment was too harsh, but wtvr. I suppose i really just don't like either Breath or Instrumental.. or much of anything angello and his crew have done in the last year, year and a half...

I will make sure to check out some of your mixes soon.. see what you have to offer.

Well that was a sweet come-together, but nobody cleared up what a filler is

First of all, you're right. The word "filler" is the one of the worst words possible to call this type of track, but that's what it's called, so I use "filler." To me, a filler is a track that you drop after a seriously banging tune that gets the crowd crazy. Whether anyone wants to admit it or not, you can't play 110% crazy get up and dance music the entire set. People need to go to the bathroom, have a drink, and rest from dancing, not to mention the fact that a person's mind gets spoiled after hearing an hour of non-stop amazing tunage. I use these tracks to take the mood back down, and later build back up into that crazy awesome omg tune that everyone loves.

In no way do I drop crap tracks in the middle of my set because I'm bored and don't want to think anymore. That's not a filler. That just doesn't fit in the mix.

Allied Nations, I'm not surprised at all you don't like The Mafia. A lot of people don't and that's fine. Listen to what you wanna' listen to and be happy. Not to be that overly optimistic guy, but check my sig. I'm me, and you're you. Forget persecution because it goes nowhere.

a "filler" track to me is a song that is used to build emotion or energy in a set before a climax... kind of like foreplay during sex. it's not the main event, but it definitely has an impact on how hard or intense the climax hits you... so i wouldn't say filler tracks are completely devoid of any value.

i think the term "filler track" just sounds so negative and people definitely have their own definitions of it. basically... i see filler tracks as being the opposite of epic peak-time tracks. i listen to plenty of sets that have tracks that i find down-right boring when listened to alone, but when they're placed in the right part of a set they can really make a big impact on how the set builds. i think also some tracks might be considered filler in the context of one set, whereas in another set they might sound huge.
