i think more clubs, etc.. use Pioneer
i think allen & heath is 4 big events such as te , innercity
etc.. |
they don't bring their own mixers to raves , they play whatever they are provided with. if, say, paul van dyk would play at trance energy after gielen, he would have used 62s too.
as for personal opinion, i think 600 are VERY overpriced. a&h are much more quality. many times using even a 4-channel mixer at the club is not an option, cause you got (almost always) three decks, three cdplayers, a sampler, a dat-recorder, a line for mic and so on... 19" rack mixers are much more widespread in clubs because they give more ability to expand the technical base in future.

DJMs have plenty of inputs...

I think this is a common misconception.... the Pioneer DJM 500 & 600 can both handle this type of setup with ease - From Pioneer's website:
| quote: | | Two MIC inputs: MAIN located on top panel, SUB on rear panel. Other inputs: 2 CD, 2 LINE, 3 PHONO. |
The DJMs have send/return for an outboard effects unit also...

I own a Xone:62 and well, lemme say I really feel limited when spinning on DJM's. The sound quality from the Xone is way better, ok you don't get integrated BPM counters (uhm, ok don't need those no problem), sampler or fx (except the awesome VCF filter of course, this filter is just a blast to work with ). I'm more of a guy that wants absolute quality of every component (even if I have to work my ass off to be able to afford it). So if I want a sampler or an effector, I'll get them apart.
The 4 band EQ is just awesome to work with, and believe me, once you used that, you won't want to return to the "old fashioned" 3band.
Don't get me wrong, the DJM's are nice machines, very nice even. They have everything in one, and are very easy to handle. This is probably the reason they're so widely used in clubs and gigs. Be aware that the Xones aren't around for that long. They already got the reputation of belonging to the best sounding mixers of the world, but as you may know most companies (renting, shops, clubs) don't change their gear just for that. But some clubs are getting Xones in now (Fuse just to name one, they used Rodec MX180mkII's for years).
Anyway you can't really go wrong with either one of those mixers, but for me the Xone:62 tops all of the rest. No compromise, pure quality.
PS : I believe that if you use the send/return connections on the DJM600 the fx/sampler gets overridden.

i just got back from my friend's house and we were playing w/ his brand spankin' new djm600 and let me tell you that it fucking kicks ass!.. i can't speak for the 62 because i've never used it but IMO you can't go wrong w/ the djm600.. its a beautiful mixer, the effects kick ass, i don't even look at the bpm counter becuase it seems to fluctuate and although it probably gives you a ballpark figure of the bpm's, i don't think it is perfectly accurate.. but its really easy to use (as far as effects are concerned) and all of the components are built well, the knobs turn super-smooth and the x-fader and volume controls feel really comfortable and smooth too.. from my experience w/ it, i feel like i have total control, and i have never used a mixer that had effects on it before tonight and maybe through the first song i was kinda overwhelmed but i got used to it quickly.. you will have total fun w/ the djm600.. but again i can't say anything about the 62 because i've never used it.
