ummm no.. he has never played other peoples vinyl.
every time he has played a set, he's played it live.
if you don't believe me, go ask him
he has selfproclaimed to have never dj'ed in his life., not in public anyway.

quote: "... he(BT) has recored under the charming sobriquet of 2 Phat ****s and despite his presence in the DJmag top 100 poll, has never DJed in his life...."

and i still disagree with the rave vs club bit..
raves can happen in clubs, clubs can have candyravers, and raves will always have candyravers.

and yea, if paul van dyk was playing on the radio i would count that as commercial exposition.. and that sucks. Whats the point of people trying to get tracks weeks before general release? whats the point of white labels? whats the point of test pressings? why bother saying? "omg, whats the track pvd played last week?" .. since it would've been plastered on radio, and whoever ended up listening to it would've by now know what it is..

and quote from you:

"shite trance played on the radio from coming to raves ,instead of clubs where they belong"

if those u worshipped at raves played on radio.. then what you said would be a be contradictory..

I really don't care whether BT dj's or not...if he doesn't I'll chew my own words and beat my friends for lying to me,lol!Personnaly I don't like BT and therefor he was a good example to me, of ppl that don't have talent that are still getting famous for being on the radio,I suppose Judge Jules would be another good example to most ppl.Either way I'm sure you understood what I meant and I don't think we need to discuss it further just for the sake of argument.

sorry I hadn't noticed your reply, infinity, until after replying to mucka

you're speaking hypothetyically, which probably isn't the best way to dicuss an issue, provide examples and maybe this argument will prgress quicker!clubs CAN have kandykids but they don't(not around here anyway) a lot of the ppl going to clubs don't go to raves a lot of the ravers don't go to clubs! If you saw the clubs we have around here you wouldn't go to them either, hehehe! If you want to see commerciality at clubs hang around here awhile ...but i'll admit some club nights are pretty slick, but only on speacial occasions,I consider those nights poorly organized raves. When the promoters can't get a venue they ask to use a club but I don't think that is from the clubs own intentions! It is not the club organizing the party either!

There is no point but it doesn't bother me that music I love so much is able to access more homes than just mine and maybe get introduced to those ignorant ppl that say"all techno is just repetitive music"!If being able to know the tracks you love or hear a song befor it's release is the worst of your worries, you shouldn't have a problem!I don't likje having to wait patiently for a track to release though it's been made long ago but the producer wants to advertise it further!I don't like having to ask ppl the name of trax to my fav songsa bc they're not played nearly enough!Whats the difference from a rave dj and a radio station dj?usually dj's are able to get vinyls befor the cd release and they'll play them at parties, they over kill some tracks too!I can't tell you how often I've heard system f -out of the blue played at parties or brisk and trixxy's -eyeopener!there really is no difference(besides the music genres) they both play what is given to them and what they like and think the crowd will like as well the thrive on the trax the know are popular! Are you trying to say that the dj I hear on my radio every friday and saturday night aren't playing real trance? they sure fooled me!

You've said IF those dj's that I love are played on the radio I should be going to clubs to listen to them, hypothetically ,I would but that is not reality and lets not speak of things that aren't otherwise I can say a lot of things that my not be true!who knows themselves to have a clear definition of where they would be if...or what they will be doing in x # of years!

sorry for the long post I didn't know how else to put it!

Hey you.
Tiesto @ The Docks was pretty good.
Parents driving kids? Uh yea sure...
What do you mean try to look cool. Ppl are there to have fun.
And most trancEaddicts who went knew loads of the track names.

I guess this is a topic that will never fade away, everybody will keep posting these threads over and over again ,and why, discussions that will lead to nowhere,'cause we happen to live in a society that is dominated by money, everything is used to make money out of it,but fact is that(good)trance will NEVER dissapear,if you call those commercial traxx ,trance ,than you go with the flow that knows shit about trance, and you're thinking commercially.Bit then where you draw the line of what's commercial and not?Now some of you will come up with some names, but for every country it's different to tell if that's commercial or not.

Read This!

As all the real tranceaddicts are assembled here, people who know everything about trance, we can influence something! Its the public that makes a trance party a succes! I can assure you that people like Tiesto or Jahan Gielen dont want to play in front of a sad audience with the average age of 16 screaming HEY-HO the whole time! They will stop djing at great parties! And they will return into the underground scene! Only Dj's like Jean will stay commercial, and his music will die out in a couple of years (like DJ paul in the Hardcore scene)! There's not really alot we can do about the commercial trance, but I think it will slowly dissapear, because of us, TRANCEADDICTS!

I'd like to agree with you Rudy but my definition of commerciality is acces to all by every means of the media ie. radio, music stations,cd's,etc...
I don't think when someone becomes commercial they can ever return to being underground!I'm sure most ppl here have seen or heard BT -never gonna come back down on the radio or on tv,once these kids notice them they'll keep 'em forever(sad really ,some really good dj's have been lost to them in the past),prodigy was decent befor firestarter but now they too have become mainstream, propellerheads, scooter, the list goes on!As long as raving is in the media attention and seduces the young kids, trance will continue to be forced mainstream at times ...I'm just wondering whether we should finally accept it or not!BTW ,my conclusion to making these kids to stop wanting to join the parties is to make it seem bad from the outside and conceal all the good that we love about it on the inside.how to do that is beyond me,hehehe!

very good point cyberia,I couldn't have said it better if I tried ...is Robert Miles commercial just bc the producers were capable of bringing fablee adn children to the public?who decides?

I agree with Cyberia, Commercialization is huge in North America.. It seems as if everything is controlled and packaged that we see on music TV and of course the Radio.. Just watch the Grammy's and you start to feel sick to your stomach at what artists are recieving awards.

But in Europe and certain countries around the world its much different. Of course Commercialization is found everywhere to some extent but its definately very different from country to country.

I'm not worried at all about commercialization of Trance, I just don't see it happening.. Especially since how will Record companies produce a 18yr old, big breasted DJ Tenny bopper girl to appeal to the teens and perverts of North America. Wait, that just might happen...

I'm more concerned with showing my friends the good music that they would otherwise never hear thanks to the totally commercialized TV and Radio... Thats how you spread the music, I really don't care about what the Commercialist stuff going on around me.

Cheers,

Thor..

see, im being mis quoted.. you people asked "how to stop trance from commercialization" and your pointing a finger at me like im saying "why do trance addicts blah blah" i said in general at raves, where you'll get those ginos that go there because they hear tiesto is going or because someone they've heard of is there. They will decide to go.

Swamper i don't complain a lot.. but here are a few things that have been on my mind lately..

i think we need a faq or something here... here's a few things to start it off with..

1. if you want to bitch about how trance music is going down the tubes because of commercialization, please post it in the chill out room. (or some new forum cause this is a trance message board.. i'm sick of hearing people bitch about mainstream people)

2. NO EXCESSIVE CAPS OR !!!!!??!?!?!??? in posts/threads (just look at the topic in this discussion.. man, it's annoying!)

3. i dunno about this last point, but how bout a newbie room or something like that... not to put anyone down, i just mean posts like the BEST OF forum/top 10 trance songs or something like that. a best of original topic is cool, but shit get's redundant around here...)

All i want is this board to stay cool... it's just slowly loosing its appeal when i know what 80% of the topics are before i log on... (best of, top 10, commercialized shiz... oh yeah, all your mp3s are belong to me
