But by the time the Vestax wore out wouldn't I want to upgrade to a more advanced mixer? Or do they wear out quickly.

The vestax will last you a number of years. Its all personal preference. If you feel that having a mixer that has four eqs per channel, filters and more features overall will overwelm and dsitract you from learning the basics, by all means go for something more simple. I personally wished i had started with something better then a simple 2ch mixer because it wasnt long after i got it that i felt limited.

Thanks for the advice, I think I'm going to go with the Vestax, for the money it seems to have the best features and sound/build quality.
