Well if you read the wikipedia article. Not all surge-protectors are created equally. If you got a 10$ surge-protector at Walmart (or wherever you crazy canooks go to buy shitty electronics, around here it's walmart). Those are false idols. And to believe in them is horrible.
You're better off with a UPS. Sometimes after poweroutages, or weird surges, electricity can "leak backwards" and can also damage your equipment. A UPS has a nice battery in it that maintains a constant voltage to your equipment. Considering investing in one if you buy a fancy new reciever.
