I guess it depends a bit on the track. Personally I barely care anymore about the "quality of production", it might be rough as hell but if it overall sounds good it's good. Since I can enjoy clubbing tracks at home I just comment based on whether I enjoy it or not. Then there's the odd exception where i'd say "meh, can't say i enjoy it much, but could see it working on the dancefloor". This means it's shit, but serves its purpose.

And once again I feel i'm writing too much about something that is quite simple. I guess this is a factor: a program I have to make for monday is scaring me so much I'm trying to distract myself for as long as possible here at TA

BY Spirit5 - But when talking about say a particular track on TA or just music in general, do you approach it from a clubber's perspective, a listener's persecptive or a musicians's perspective? I'm really curious about that...

I think it depends who you are. since i create and mix music (only mp3s i know im not a DJ). And also, since ive been clubbing plenty of times. I listen to it fromm all 3 of the approaches you mentioned.

it depends who you are and what you do.

If it makes me bob my head or move in some sort of uncontrollable fashion then it pretty much means that I like it. But there are songs I didn't like at first but when I listened to them in a club I enjoyed them more. It all really depends on the circumstances really but I keep an open mind with it all.

Yeah it could depend on the track too. I mean you wouldn't say some really dark and relentless track is "beautiful" "emotional" and "uplifting" or think about it as an enjoyable listen (although this isn't true in all cases, some people might think differently about a "dark" or "cold" track then what I do), but rather how that tune goes down on the dance floor, regardless of it's not following a particular structure or has a melody or makes you feel good...cause it serves it's purpose as a peak time dance floor track. On the other hand, a tune with a great melody and maybe some nice vocals would work either on the dance floor and just casual listening at home or in your car, or on your MP3 player...

I love dark trance and dark dnb as well. Absolutely i wouldnt call it beautiful. But if im listening to it then thats the feeling i desire to be surrounded with cuz im pissed or something. Get what im saying? It all good. depends who you are.

If they were playing dark music in the club i would as well love that. It would just be a "different" kind of loads of fun.

You just play what the crowd wants...and what the envioroment seems to ask for

my 2 cents

I've never really been into dark stuff, but the darkest I will get is the really dark and deep stuff like John Digweed used to play (he still might, haven't heard any sets). Like for example..his Global Underground: Los Angeles CD, now that is dark and I rather like it. The same for Nick Warren's "GU: Amsterdam" CD.

I promise you spirit5. In my opinion every bit of this kind of music is an aquired taste. You wont really feel it at first but if you go to the right party all of a sudden you understand.

This could be the drugs of past talking... lol

Haha yeah i'm not into drugs, and I haven't been into any really underground parties with really dark music. I've seen Sasha And Digweed, I saw Digweed twice by the way (once with both sasha and digweed and the other time with just Digweed), there stuff blew me away. I guess I am just not into "hard" stuff, and the stuff they play isn't exactly hard, but it's not really uplifting either....but I did hear that Sasha has gotten harder...even darker...wow I can only imagine what his sets might be like now...that must be some depressing shit..., i'm an uplifting fluff whore , although I think my tastes have changed to deeper stuff now, and I like some more subtle stuff as well, the epic stuff has gotten annoying...except for Micro de Govia and the slower epic-progressive trance out there...

a bit of all approaches, but mostly the listeners point of view.. like what kinda feelings/emotions does it give me? Quality.. some tracks aren't really 'my cup of tea' but are just produced brilliantly, and I will appreciate it more because of that.. And some tracks that I don't like or think are overrated, but once it is played in a club, it can be experienced totally different (in a better way)!
