have there been any issues with your eqing etc? meaning, it sounded good to you with the earplugs, but not so good to the people on the floor?

or any other issues?

Level when making tunes should be at about 85-90 dB. Only turn it up to have a listen occasionally.
Your ears are your tools if you make music - look after them.

I'd be interested to hear this too. I know that the molded plugs reduce all the levels equally across the spectrum.

Etymotic ER20's are ace.

Mine cost 10 quid and I keep them on my keyring always.

They aint always super easy to DJ with but they are workable.

Music kills ears, the tragic irony, lol.

They aint exactly flat. The graphs they use are clever, and they cut more high than low. Which is good in terms of your hearing, but when buggering about with that filter in a seriously loud club, you may not notice the resonace highs are stripping paint of the walls.

In general though, if it sounds good through your phones and monitors. It's gonne be right on the floor. Most club systems are shit anyways, so blame them!

congratulations!

good choice in spending some money on securing your hearing. we will be the deaf generation imo..

anyways.. the er25's will be better than the er15's. 15db is a good ammount of cut but i think 25 is better.

remember that the 15db ones knock off 15db in the perfect situation.. but in reality will take off about 7db..

the 25's should end up knocking off about 15db.

with regards to the 4-6 hours in a club being like working in manufacturing for 6 years... that is very close to reality..

just have a look on google for 'hearing protection' and 'safe levels of noise'

with earplugs like the 25's you will suffer the same damage to your hearing in six hours as you would from a quarter of an hour without protection..

deafness and tinnitus isnt the only thing to worry about..

'hyperacusis' is a hypersensitivity to loud noise that can be brought on from prolonged hearing damage and can be associated with tinnitus. - i have it. imagine a fire engine coming past you and having to cover your ears because they dont stop ringing for half an hour after hearing the bloody thing! its hell. i use er 20's. non moulded but they work a treat! my ears never ring after djing anymore but i have to admit, in shitter clubs with not as good monitors i end up taking them out during the transition..

Usually they should change the filters for you for free.

The place i got them done in (in ireland) said i could just drop in whenever i wanted to and they'd change them for me free of charge. My price was a bit more expensive though at 250euro.

Well worth the price though, i don't use them enough at the moment though, haven't been mixing enough. Getting them fitted is a weird sensation, having all that gewy (i dunno what it actually is)..

but they mix two rubber/gel/putty's together. Only when they're mixed together do they harden. After a while ofcourse. But you're sitting there for a few minutes and you can't hear jack shit!

Anywho, congrats wait till the morning after! It's savage when your ears aren't bleeding (not literally of course) and ringing from the night before!

let us know what you think when you get them.

nelly

so i went in to get the impression of my ears taken.

they put a small cotton ball with a string attached to it and gently push it way down in your ear and then get out this little gun that looks like a caulking gun and inject this cool putty type stuff in your ear... you need to hold your jaw relaxed for the entire 5-8 minutes... and do not bite down at all.

it is a weird but relatively pleasurable sensation... i would do it again... LOL

the guy said it would take about 3 weeks
