I exclusively use CDJ mode, Vinyl mode is alright but I have no use for scratching. CDJ is just so easy to use. Sometimes when I have tried using Vinyl mode, I would accidently make a scratch noise and it would mess up my mix, esp if I was recording it...

Vinyl mode. I scratch at times, and it's just become habit for me to cue up tracks on my CDJs just like a vinyl record. Hitting play to start a track just seems 'meh' to me.

Haha i'm the opposite. When I had TTs, I tried for a little while pressing stop and stopping the needle at the cue point and then pressing start when I was to bring in the next track, however I was told this was bad for the motor and for the needle so I stopped. But now I can do this with CDJs and I have no problem doing it..

Alright guys, I'll answer. At least the basic differences..it's hard to explain without showing you, especially if you haven't used cd players.

CDJ mode acts like 99% of CD players. If you spin the platter while the track is playing, it pitch bends up or down. If the track is paused and you move the platter, it searches frame by frame through the cd..basically moves where the pause point is. What you hear in the headphones is whatever frame you're on (a frame is 1/75th of a second) at the moment replaying over and over so you know exactly where you are.

Vinyl mode emulates a turntable. Basically think of the platter as a turntable, although it doesn't actually spin. Now, if you spin the platter while it's playing, it's exactly like you spun the record in that direction (i.e. you don't normally do this). Note that there is an outer ring around the platter that you can spin and it acts like you spun the platter in CDJ mode. If it's paused and you move the platter, it moves it however much a record would move if you had moved it that much. And it'll start playing if you let go of the platter. If you don't let go, it won't keep playing the frame you're on like in CDJ mode...again it sounds just like a turntable.

There's the basics. There are other little things like in CDJ mode it pauses when the track ends, whereas in vinyl mode it continues on to the next track...but i'm not gonna go through all that.

P.S. I use CDJ mode.

one thing i like about cd mode is for doing corrections... you can put your fingers on the top of the platter as opposed to brushing the sides... sometimes i just prefer to do it that way

most of the time in vinyl mode though

How is it bad for the motor to start and stop the table?

He's giving it socks in that video!!

What effect is it that he uses 1/2 way through the video? And what mixer is he using?

Cheers,

I don't own cd players but if i did i think i'd use vinyl mode, i also hate the stutter, it's sounds unnatural..
