A very good point. There seems to be 2 huge groups growing amongst the gamers: One who finds that graphics are less than important. It's all about gameplay, storyline, sound and controls to them. The other half of the spectrum seems to belong to the younger generation of gamers who instantly declare that the better the graphics, the better the system, the better the game. I think graphics are integral in next generation consoles HOWEVER I also find that I end up spending more time playing retro titles than newly released ones. The war wages on...
Many people are arguing, nowadays, that Nintendo is slowly killing themselves and that they truly don't know what they're doing. After attending the Nintendo Keynote last week at the GDC, I can safely say that they are the most-sure-of-themselves of the Big Three. The industry shouldn't be saying bye bye to Nintendo yet. |
To be honest... I look for both gameplay and graphics. Although, I'm the type of gamer that will find a game that suits me best and play it for a good 6 months straight without really bouncing to another title. With today's hardware available, if a company puts full effort into a game they should be able to accomplish both, imo. I find many companies are satisfied with 1/2 of what COULD be done. However, I do also understand that many smaller companies simply don't have the budget for this and are forced to choose between graphics and gameplay. I'm very picky with my games these days and quite critical of what "could" have been done with it given the current power of the console/pc
I did read over some of your notes on a couple of the seminars. Pretty interesting stuff! I especially like to see where developers think the industry is heading...
