Actually, my old roommate and I used this tactic for another roommate that lived with us....Wed put all her crap in her room, including the dishes she left out and didnt wash after using. She was a sub-tenant tho, so eventually we just gave her her eviction notice.

I have also used the put it in the bed tatic. it works. things get crazy for a week or two then they usually give up and comply.

my other solution was to set up my punching bag in the garage and pound the crap out of it everytime the room mate pissed me off. with all of the banging everytime they fu'ked up they got the picture it was time to smarten up or become my new target shortly.
Along similar lines, every time I had to do her dishes I would slam the pot really hard against the counter and yell FU*K! she would come upstairs and ask what was wrong... I would point the dishes and leave.


oh also stink bombs rolled under her door when she had a guy over. first date she had had while living with us... he left. she cried. we felt bad. until we reminded ourselves of how we had put up with her shit for 8 months. (we were just going to wait it out but she said she liked us all for being so friendly that she was going to re-sign for the next year too... we couldn't have that, she was tearing us apart and making us fight with each other.)

From a psychological stand point the horrible room mate usually feels 'too at home' in the living situation which is why they feel that they can behave any way they choose. Because your friend no longer feels it is very homey to her she is likely trying to retreat to her private spaces when in the residence. This is the opposite of what they should do. You essentially want the situation reversed, so go to greater efforts to make the shitty roomate feel as though it is not her house. Make her feel unwelcomed and like she is an inconveince. Expand your belongings around the mutual space areas and try pushing her back into a smaller and smaller region of the house. Manners usually improve when we stay in other peoples houses... make it feel like she is a vistor and should tread litely.
