I have mixed feelings about this years WMC. Overall, I enjoyed it for what it was, but I must say that the trip came absolutely nowhere close to how it was last year.

Friday 24th

After waiting 3 hours and drinking 3 scotches at IAH after trying to get on the same plane as jojo (fucking standby never works) I end up arriving to the airport at 5 and cuz of the incompetancy of airport personnel locating my luggage (that went with jojo's flight ahead of mix) and the Sofitel hotel shuttle taking its sweet ass time getting to pick me up I got to the hotel room around 7ish...no time for a nap, jet lagged like a mofo, and still buzzed from the 3 scotches and the lil vial of Sky vodka I drank at 38,000 feet over the gulf of mexico.
There was some drama and confusion due to guestlist, which was handled before I lost my cool with the security. Anyone who has been to Club Space knows that wouldn't of turned out too good since the club is run by the mafia (probably) and considering all the miami police sitting outside waiting for shit to go down. Enough of that...we get inside and Oscar G is doing an....okay..opening set. Maybe it just wasnt my style, but when it seemed like the set was about to progress and go off the hook, the energy died down again, Id hate to say this...but compared to the opening crowds I am used to seeing (no shameless plug intended) they looked pretty bored. Bottom line IMHO...EDGAR V SHOULD HAVE OPENED.
Then Paul van Dyk gets on. Now...what I'm about to say might surprise everyone considering how much of a PvD fan I am, but....... *shakes head, pours a lil vodka into the ground* WHAT THE FLYING FUCK!!! The pro's about his set were that he played a few good tracks. The cons...were that he played the wrong tracks at the wrong time. No flow, no harmonic mixing...hell he has ableton to beatmatch for him. I just don't know. The last 2 times I saw him at Space, the sets were absolutely mind-blowing. This one came not even close to how it was at Club Blue in Dallas last month. I was dissapointed. For some reason, security wasnt letting anymore people go up to the roof as I figured Sander was probably putting on a much better show...oh well. PvD was supposed to spin for 6 hours but it just wasn't going anywhere, he played a reworked version of John Dahlback - Nothing is For Real (Mark Knight remix) that track is NOT meant (imo) to be played above 128bpm let alone 140. Jojo and I called it a night and I had to apologize to Edgar V that we wouldnt be able to stay and catch his set. I'm being a tough critic here but for the love of God, Paul coulda done much better than that.

Saturday 25th

Ultra. Jojo, his girl, Arturo and I all decided to get there close to sundown. We needed the sleep from Space last night and really figured there was no point in getting in there any earlier. Well...we were on the guestlist to get in, and even those WITH presales had to wait 3-4 hours to get in the damn festival. I was honestly considering using some of the marine recon training I had back in 1999 and finding my own way to sneek in up until Disco Donnie called and vouched for Jojo and us to get in. Finally. We walked around and checked out a few tents but I honestly couldn't tell who was playing which room as I didnt wanna lose the people I was with and we were in and out of the tents in less than a minute. I was mainly trying to get em to stick with the prog house tent as one, it seemed to have the best vibe, and 2, it was fucking cold as shit and I wasnt dressed like I was gonna go to the beach or some shit (its Miami, hell it was warm last year!) well whatever. We walked over to one of the two main stages and caught the last but of The Killers performance. I aint really that much of a fan, and maybe cuz we were standing outside the crowd off to the right but I wasnt feelin the sound system. We headed back to main tent and Mauro Picotto (at least I was told that was him...we didnt get close to the front) was playing more of a minimal techno sounding set which was honestly pretty decent from what I was hearing. The group wante dto go check out The Prodigy so we walked over to the main stage and stood around the perimeter. Well...I wasn't too impressed. From my perception I heard a mashup of breaks and the lead singer yelling random shit into the mic "WHERE U AT MIAMI!!!!!!" "READY FOR MORE!!!!???" "SMACK MY BITCH UP!!!!" , I know the last bit is one of there tracks but I heard it yelled more than 7 times so iono.. I just wasn't feelin it. We went back to teh Picotto tent when I was dancing next to some Columbian chick and her julio boyfriend looking territorial but didnt start any shit. haha.. before I could get her # Jojo informed me PvD was about to go on and we made our way to the main stage.
I was thinkin in my head "okay...maybe Paul was havin a bad day last night and was saving his serious shit for tonight" As we got closer to the stage Arturo was like "I wouldn't try getting any closer to the stage..." We should have listened. Paul played a decent set compared to his shit at Space, however it was spoiled by all the goddamn candykids that shoulda been extinct by now. Not that I have a problem with em dressing like fools, but that whistle blowing/photon waving shit has GOT to go. That and...was there any age restrictions on this party? Cuz one of the girls feeling me up musta been half my age...and Im only 25. I felt some growing indigestion so I moved. Paul was doing alright besides the fact that he played half of the same damn tracks he did at last year's Ultra. As soon as Time of Our Lives came on we made our way to the exit, we figured he was pretty much wrapping it up anyway. This review probably sounds highly cynical and bitter...but I guess Im too old for these festivals. The main issues besides the e-tards, the the wait to get in and the fact that it was not held at Bayfront, had it been there, it would have without a doubt been a better party. Eh...I guess I can't complain, I got in for free *shrug*

Afterwards we went to IHOP and Arturo tells us the story about how a producer friend of his recorded him snoring, sampled it and made a track out of it. I posted naother thread with the finalized song that he sent me the link to.

Sunday the 26th

We coulda gone to see Tiesto at Mansion, or G&D at Bed, but we decided to go a different route and hang out with Edgar V in South Beach. I'm honestly glad we did cuz I was kinda burnt out by all the madness of the previous 2 nights and preferred something more chill. I couldn't recall who was playing at Crobar, but it was some good shit. Edgar V promised to send me a few tracks so that should be cool if he comes through. Other than that we mostly walked around the streets of South Beach checking out the women and the crazy rides we were seeing. Cadillacs with 30" wheels, Hummers, Escalades, Range Rovers, all of em with spinners. I thought I was at a 5th Ward/Mike Jones Ballers' convention rather than the WMC, but it still made for some spontanseous entertainment.

Monday the 27th

Nikki Beach. I'll sum this one up:
Cons: The cold. Cuz of the damn never I never got to see Miami Beach this year oh well.
Pros: The most beautiful, half naked women I'll ever see in America. The line-up I recall was Pete Tong on the mic, Sander, Fergie, Max Graham..at least he was there, and Sharam of Deep Dish. Two tracks I kept hearing throughout the conference contained the vocals "This..is..Miami." and "Party all the time." Wouldn't mind IDing those two.

Tuesday the 28th

Well...due to a credit card becoming lost and cancelled, we missed out on Sasha & Digweed. Edgar V mighta coulda got us in on the guestlist at Space but by the time Jojo got a hold of him I had already overdrank my fair share of the vanilla flavored run (due to the fact of losing the card and the dissapointing pvd shows, missing the beach), jojo's girl was tried so we all crashed. Hell it wasn't a total loss. Out of all the 4-5 star hotels I've had the luxury of staying at, this one had the most comfy beds, never had a better nights sleep anywhere. On the other hand, the damn hotel did NOT have a jacuzzi. So my hopes of calculating getting a few hot girls, a bottle of fine champagne, the xanax I had on me, combined with a hottub feel through. Shit happens.

Wednesday the 29th

Don't even get me started on the trip back. Thus ends this review. Overall, despite the dissappointments, it was a good vacation for getting the hell out of Houston for a week; and I finally got to meet a chick I was looking forward to meeting since last years WMC, she knows who she is.

We had VIP the night we club hopped with Edgar V. All of the other events jojo and I was guestlisted for, but not VIP. Its easier for girls I suppose... some girls dont do a goddamn thing for the electronic music scene except act as trophy bitches for the artists or columbian coke traffickers. Guess that's life tho

!!!!!!!

I wasn't the one who sold my shirt for $100.

Agree with you that Ultra sucked. I bought my ticket once I was in Miami (most of the clothing shops in South Beach sell them) so at least I missed waiting in line.

LOL. None of my post was directed toward you at all, more to a few women Jojo knows but that is all I am saying.

As far as the selling my shirt for $100. Lets do the math:

-I was working part-time at Target then..$100 was a week's paycheck.
-the night before my vehicle was towed forfeiting the money I was promised for the Acosta gig
-the guy was an IDIOT, he coulda bought the same damn shirt for $30 at paulvandyk.de
-while the Versace shirt he traded me retails at $250 according to a manager at the Galleria store.

And finally. I consented to selling the shirt to shut his ass up. Columbians are some persistant mothafuckas and how was I suppose to know he didn't have some cartel/mafia enforcers in case I turned him down.

To quote my brother: "These aren't just coke traffickers...these are probably the supervisors. You played your set let's get the fuck outta here."
