I'd say download live sets, listen to them, and the more you listen the more you understand what trance is about. The more you feel it, thats how i started. At first it was just music now its magic!

And if anyone tries to denigrate your taste and tell you you're wrong about the music if you like--even if it's me--fuck 'em.

I'd disagree, they didnt get where they are because they are shit you dumbasses. They got there because they are good! And to get a break in this industry you have to be fucking good, and a bit lucky! So if you knew to the music start above ground and when you get into it you'll probably go deeper undergroud.

Also the big DJ's appeal to a larger audience so new comers will be more likely to like it. EG's Armin, Corsten, PvD, A&B etc.

enough exposure to this industry leaves a very bad taste in ones mouth and creates quite a foul opinion of it for some people. I would say in some ways he is right, some aspects of this industry are sickening. But it was a bit of an extreme, making such a wide assumption for all indurstry, Im sure there are at some good people in it.

i agree with what he says... except for:
quote:
remember that there are no objective standards

which even he doesn't really agree with

quote:
[The music critic] has to sell an opinion that is 95 percent completely subjective, but the only way to do it is to focus on the five percent that's objective.

Sorry, i think it's the underground-devil-in-me. Andy's right, listening to livesets is definately the most effective way to expand your view.. Just dont get caught on one DJ before you've tried a few different ones. Peace out.
