just buy a decent looking helmet with a visor, Giro makes good ones. Wear a helmet! Why wouldnt you wear something that protects your head, when you wipe out, and would otherwise smash your head off the road??

at least I looked "cool" before I got brain damage!
come on folks! lol

yes, by 16 year olds and under. Anyone who starts making it law for adults should get their ass kicked.

why?

There are lots of stupid people out there that still need someone to watch out for them. Like myself and others above have mentioned that's like saying seat belts and motor cycle helmets shouldn't have to be mandatory. We are generally better off if they make it illegal to not wear one, it's something we should all be doing anyway. that said, I know I'm bad for it not wearing mine unless I'm riding in town with traffic or doing overtly technical trails. Skate boards are a similar issue in this regard, although I even more rarely wore a helmet doing that, I probably should have.

I have both a mountain and racing bike in my garage. As I got older, I don't gun through red lights anymore, always signal when necessary, and don't take risks on the trails anymore.

I know my limits, and know how quickly life can be snuffed out. Teens have the feeling of invicibility and don't have a fear of dying like we do.

ok that being said to assume you are always 100% in your zone on a bike...
what about drivers? you mention you have a road bike, that I would assume implies you use the road while riding it. That given is it not possible that a car could cut you off and force you to make a unexpected move causing you to fall... you don't have to answer, it's yes. I have spent years racing bikes with some very talented individuals and have even seen a friend (who was full pro) get tossed over the hood of a car and land and split his helmet in two.
Same thing is motor bikes... anything COULD happen. why not protect against it? it's easy to do and something everyone should do. Sometimes we are naturally stupid and government may well be in the right to pass law saying everyone should wear a helmet. it's hard argue when it's in our best interest anyway. That said there is the question of where to draw the line... next it could be neck braces...
If we are more afraid of dying why take the risk of not wearing a helmet? Seems to me you would want to willingly protect against that fear, knowing that you are not invincible.
As for the mountain bike, I have rode many trails well within my ability on days where 'I wasn't pushing it' and have still flown over the bars because something unexpected came up.
All in all I agree the government should only make it law that youth have to wear helmet... but that's only because I feel adults should be able to remove themselves from the gene pool if they can't be smart enough to protect themselves from potential risks accordingly.

it's a gamble, why take it if you don't have to?

Yeah I get it, I just feel it shoudl remain a choice.

There have been too many laws created because of a couple of rare instances.

They've passed a bylaw in York region to make helmets mandatory for trail ride operators because of the first time in this area's history, one girl on a trail ride fell off while her foot was still in the stirrup, and she hit her head, and terribly and unfortunately passed away of the head injury.

There are rare accidents, but we can't take a few accidents, and make them law.

Another note in Bradford... Because of two careless drivers drove off the road and drove into the canal, that resulted in a casualty, they want to close the highway exit, reduce speed limits, etc... when one was speeding in the first place, and the other was talking on her f-cking cellphone.

It pisses me off when people blame everyting else for their own lack or responsibility.

/rant over. Thank you.
