Know your asking him but i'll answer this first...the reason we use near field monitors vs. PA speakers is the simple fact you don't have to turn up near field monitors as loud, they sound cripser and clearer, even lower budget ones, you can put them closer to your ears then PAs. PAs are not really for practice unless you can manage to get a really good pair you don't have to turn up quite as loud in order to mix with. I had PAs for two years, and I can tell you, they did sound pretty good, but you had to turn them up quite loud and to really get good sound, you had to keep them further away, since PAs aren't designed for right up close to your ears like near fields are of course (unless you use ear plugs or don't care about your hearing). Now I have RP8s and they sound fine, I really don't have to turn them up that loud, but they are fine when I do turn them up louder.

Good, you made the right choice, you wont regret it. They are very good monitors for the price, I don't think you can get any better IMO for $500, you don't even need a subwoofer really. It's always something you can add, but they pump out quite enough bass without one.

lets not forget!!!

sounding great is one thing...

but if you want a great sounding system with bass ("real, serious bass")... you need a sub or a few subs

a 5 inch driver is not going to do it if you want a pouding system

end of story

and from what i recall... you are the guy with the x92... so your system would likely sound more along the lines of phenomenal!! not necessarily bass heavy... but really clean, full and crisp

i need to get myself an x92.... soon soon!!
