I could not disagree more with that statement. I think United's post said it all. We've had tons of good shows here. You can't measure how well a city is just by how many times PVD and Tiesto come here. The cost of those two are just ridiculous. But we have had an abundance of quality shows in the past month, 2 months, 6 months and a year. Granted it is not Toronto or Vancouver, but again, size and pricewise it is not viable. If PVD came here, people would complain about the price. If PVD doesn't come here, you complain about the lack of shows. Lose lose for some people... can't please everyone.
United and Connected, keep up the great work.
Terry

If you want to attack MY OPINION, that's fine. But you can't just throw out names of every DJ that hits Edmonton and call us lucky. I realize that Edmonton is a smaller market, hence we get less good shows. While you are at it, why don't you add Boy George on there too? Or Roger Sanchez? I'm not afraid to drop the cash to see these shows. If there was a good show in town, you shouldn't be complaining about the cost either (since when is $35-$50 a lot of money - especially when a trance CD costs about that much now? I forgot, when Johan Gielen went to Calgary, I paid close to $80 a ticket? And the cost of a trip to Calgary? And I only went for him!). I can't understand why a person, who says that they love trance and blah blah blah would complain about the cost of shows? While I agree that it's nice to have cheaper ticket prices, in the long run, it shouldn't matter when you're paying for a live experience. It really depends what you value.

That's pretty brutal. We've had alot of talent coming through Edmonton in the past little bit...
David Morales
GODSKITCHEN Donald Glaude vs. Dj Dan
Felix da Housecat
Ferry Corsten
Infected Mushroom
Tiga
Above & Beyond
Markus Schulz
Judge Jules
Benny Benassi
Eddie Halliwell
Armin Van Buuren
Yoji
Just to name a few! If you haven't noticed, PVD only plays Vancouver / Toronto / and sometimes Montreal. Tiesto has only been playing Montreal / Toronto / Vancouver. I don't think you realize that Edmonton is a smaller market then these other cities and it's much harder to book some of these DJs. If the show's listed above aren't "DECENT" shows... i'm not sure exactly what we can do to please people like you. Expecially when the last time WAY OUT WEST was brought to Edmonton it lost a tremendous amount of money... for the amount of Cash that some of the acts you listed request... it's just not worth it for the promoter. Sure, we could book WAY OUT WEST or SASHA, but the ticket price would be $35-$45 like most cities. Then instead of complaining about enough "DECENT" shows coming through edmonton, people start complaining about how much ticket prices are. Edmonton gets to see FERRY CORSTEN for $20 a ticket... that's probably one of the lowest ticket prices on his tour! Can't complain about that! Edmonton got to watch Markus Schulz AND Judge Jules for $18 a person. |

That list is not every DJ that has hit Edmonton. That's simply a list of DJ's that has come or is coming to Edmonton from April '06' to June '06'. That's ALOT of good talent in a small span of time. $80 a ticket only works for large raves.... and the average person in the Edmonton market will not pay $35-$45 to see a DJ like TIESTO. We had a hard time making people pay $25 to see Armin the Third time he was back.

Not attacking your opinion at all and neither is United. But you have to, have to, have to realize that you are in the vast MINORITY who is willing to pay to see bigtime DJs in this city. If Tiesto returns or PVD comes and they have to charge 60 bux, wait until you see the avalanche of complaints from everyone else in the city. That's the truth summed up... you are one of the few who is willing to pay to see great trance. It's a product of living in Canada but not in cities that start with T, M or V.

Nick Warren of Way Out West was in Edmonton at the Standard last summer, and he did a hell of a job. Sasha was in Edmonton in February of last year.
I can't complain about the scene in Edmonton. ~1 million people in the region, and definitely not a renowned party/DJ destination, but we draw a good crop of events. In regards to ticket prices, if you think it doesn't matter, you are mistaken. The Markus-&-Jules deal at Fever last month was brilliant. Two headliners, then tack on drinks and transportation, and the wallet still wasn't as hurting as it has been (Wonderland with Armin was fairly expensive despite being a very large and long party; since it took hours to get through the line, it hurt more). It's definitely a good thing when prices are lower for the individual, but also for the party because it surely draws more of a crowd.
