switching between production and DJ gear can be as simple as having everything connected to a patch-bay and having the right stuff patched in/out.

Yea a Behrginer patchbay would be adequate for use in a home studio. It's not like you'll have clients in there seeing that you have cheaper gear. A patchbay is more of a convenience box for i/o and gear access. Soldering it yourself is the best bet. I've seen VERY small patchbays made from all mini-TRS (3/8") connectors.

All you really need to have is a rackmount front panel to house the female connectors (as many as you need), and then solder your cables to the patchbay panel's connectors as you see most convenient/modular and then make a bunch of 50cm (or smaller) patch lines to patch with. It's a great project to undertake because it represents the nerve center of your home studio... and it can work as a credential for you.

These would probably be the Bantam connections I guess, slightly different to your normal Headphone connector.
Any idea where to get the sockets?

Don’t buy Behringer unless you have to. Go for Mackie VLZ if you can afford, Yamaha MG series and Alesis are also good but still it’s worth getting the Mackie for those synths. Used gear are also worth looking into.

I have a brother who does electrical engioneering he has pretty alright soldiering skills. I asked him about it and he said since im just switching between two maybe three things that what he could do was make a switch.
That way i can just leave everything plugged in and flick the switch. Only problem is having a switch may end up causing interfearance/bleed and other problems.

Checked that , and a few others from Oz but seems hard to find the parts. As I said in earlier post, best to go into store and have a look. Not really that keen to build one tho.

if you guys are interested, here's a related P'bay article
http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/mar...1f63142da2989b1

I have also just read the Behringer unit uses sockets front and back, so I'd avoid this as that can create double the probs.

A bit expensive, but a better build: here
