well i'm mostly interested in how the looping works and how seamless it is. i'm also interested in the overall usability of the players. one thing i've wondered about too is that can you scan thru tracks holding the rewind or fast forward buttons and spinning the platter (that feature IMO is very useful on my pioneers)?

Denon almost had it with their 3500 deck.
I've used both CDJs and these decks, it terms of features Denon is a winner. I've noticed most of the time people need is simplicity and reliability in which case exactly what CDJs offer. No effects just a solid deck.
When first 3500 came out it had numerous issues like cue issue which were almost polished up to perfection later on, after a year. Rotating platter does look cool and a bonus for turntablists otherwisem useless and has to be switched off to static mode for any pitch bending and correction. It does have a few flaws which bugged me like almost no support for VBR files no ID3 tags will display or it won't show current or elapsed time and skip forward or rewind is only up to 10 secs due to its tiny buffer with any mp3 files, it just doesnt browse or load up mp3s quick enough. It performs best with audio CDs and not mp3 data recorded discs.
I will sum up for its cost and features you can't find anything better.
Again in terms of simplicity CDJs which you can easily adapt to if you happened to have never used one.
Precise pitch .02% only offered on CDJ-1000 basically it's a great deck to use at home. I am yet to find the 3500 being used at a club tho sadly I'd proudly be abusing it.
So since Pioneer took over years ago there's no reason why anyone would replace their current club set up with Denon for the sake of effects? There're loasd of mixers comin out that offer effects.
In the long run it's what works best for you.

thanks for the review.

basically what i'm looking for is a player that has 0,02% pitch resolution, looping that enables me to loop the beginning and end of the same track (32 or 16 beats) (almost) seamlessly and be generally reliable and "easy to use" ie no stupid things that make using them unnecessarily difficult. and they'd have to cost under 700€ too (i know the denon is a bit more expensive usually, but can be found for 699€ from time to time).
i guess i'm just afraid of getting denon because of all the criticism it gets. i dunno how much of that criticism is really justified in the end though.
basically i'm looking at the cdj-200 and the dn-s3500 as the cdj-1000 is way too expensive for me and the cdj-800 doesn't have accurate enough pitch. i know the cdj-200 is a lot cheaper than the denon, but what i really wonder is that can it do all i want it to do and would i get more stuff i'd find useful if i got the denon.
damn hard to decide as i can't go test them anywhere.
